No disrespect Kevin, but I don't think the two are comparable at all. If management hadn't worked out for you, I'm guessing you could have returned to your previous role, even if with a different employer. Your namesake does not have the same advantage, once his playing career is over, it's finished, gone forever. He wants to keep playing for as long as he can and will have years after his playing days are over to make a career in management, so not a difficult decision at all imo.

 

Absolutely fair point, don’t disagree. However it does work both ways. I mentioned honesty earlier.
Let’s say he’s got 2 years left as a part time player maximum . Then what? He has to find a completely new opportunity , highly likely at the bottom of the managerial or coaching ladder.
He could start that process two years early if offered the role , why not….? His contract would be covered for the same period but critically to a much higher value ….Adding more to his pension pot.
On that basis if it meets his family circumstances , it’s pretty much risk free move for him . imho.

 

That's why I think a player/coach role would be the best all round for all parties.

 

Trevor Cherry worked under a rolling six months contract, meaning he would always be guaranteed six months compensation.

 

As I posted he has no control over his future playing wise going forward, and if Hughes had still been here I doubt very much he would have been a starter every game.
We don't know when the next managerial appointment may be made so he could be doing the player managers job for 3/4 more games, get the likes of Derbyshire, Doyle,Trueman more involved to take the burden off himself.

 

Some posters belive in this day and age it maybe not as easy as it was years ago, we know one thing for sure our resent managerial appointments have not worked lets give it a go especially if the likes of the players I've mentioned above are happy to help out as they won't be regular starters.

No chance. Management of a football team can absolutely not be a democracy, it needs one clear leader making the decisions and complete clarity. Macdonald also can't manage them adequately if he's on the pitch and absorbed in the game, that's why there aren't any player/managers anymore.

I suggested taking more day to day involvement McDonald would be the person who made the ultimate decision.
Are us suggesting as long as he's in charge he won't play himself it seemed to work pretty well last night, it was a game of football irelavent of the importance of the game.

 

MacDonald himself doesn't seem entirely at ease with a player/coach role so we should be knock that one on the head. Never go into something where the person involved isn't 100% happy with the situation.

 

He's said he wouldn't want the player/manager role permanently. Player/coach working under a manager is a different proposition and one imo, he would be more likely to consider.

 

There's doubt there, I don't want to go with a manager who has self doubt about his ability to do both roles.

 

The importance of the game is clearly relevant. That's why he didn't play any part in the last league game and barring an injury crisis, he won't play in the next.

It was pretty obvious that the trophy game last night was used so that he could maintain fitness to enable him to play once the new manager comes in.

 

Neither do I, which is why I think him continuing as a player with some coaching responsibilities thrown in would be the best way to go for the club and for big Kev.

 

Yes without McDonald giving the nod after he says wont then it's all hypothetical, unfortunatly at his age playing as long as possible could mean 20+ games over his remaining contract, we all hope that's not the case but he will know how he's feeling fitness wise, both physically and mentally.

 

So until a replacement is found he won't be a part of the team because you believe he can't do both jobs ?.
Ryan needs to get his finger out and get the new man in sooner rather than later but Simon Parker is writing the club are in no hurry.

 

No, he won't be part of the team because HE clearly believes that he can't do both jobs which is why he doesn't want the job full time as he still wants to play.

He's told you this himself in interviews if you'll bother to listen.

I'm not disagreeing however I am saying at his age his playing career may be shorter than he had hoped, of course we all hope that not to be he case.
