I'm referring to his dressing room antics if all is to be believed not his playing ability.

A bit underwhelmed at signing a guy who has played so many games, all at the low level but I remember 4/5 years back being underwhelmed that we had signed a 35 year old who had played more than 500 games at lower level and had been shown the door by a smaller club than us. We live in hope.

 

120 games in the championship, and most of the others at the level we are at. What level are you expecting, Premier League?

 

Really don't understand why you have to reply in such a manner; are you having a bad day? Obviously I don't know the lad well enough but at the moment his career seems to be going backwards and I hoped for a little more than someone Southend doesn't want. However, I certainly wont write him off before the season has started and hope we can turn him round.

He's right in what he's saying. I'd say it's you who's having a bad day.

 

No, I'm actually having a good day but I thought his reply a little aggressive and patronising. It didn't need the "what do you expect" etc. I feel that this happens with quite a lot of the replies on this forum but appreciate it must be difficult for some people of an exceptional intellect to respond to lesser intellectuals who feel they have a right to hold opinions.

Baffled by your response mate tbh, certainly not meant to be aggressive or anything. Genuinely just perplexed by your comment about him not playing at a high level, he’s probably played at a higher level than most our squad. If you’d questioned his ability fair enough but the level he’s played at, not sure what you are expecting from our signings?

 

Having heard his interviews I’d say he sounds just what we need. A leader who loves getting in the box but doesn’t have delusions of being a number 10

 

Think we'll get what I actually expect; some youngsters and some journeymen pros who will tread water for us while the youngsters hopefully develop. Don't want our owners to bankrupt us but our last owners learnt when to take calculated risks. Perhaps the present ones will be able to do this when the collateral is there within the squad.

 

Gary Jones wasn't actually released by Rochdale, we pretty much poached him.

He was effectively staying, until we swooped - and he joined us instead.

 

Wright obviously has ability, seems to have lost his way a bit.

Reminds me a bit of the Taylor signing and he was a decent find (until the end).

 

Wright isn't the risk that Taylor was. Taylor was a gamble that ultimately didn't pay off, his track record said sooner or later it would go tits up. If Wright has any confidence in his own ability this is probably his last chance to show it but i have no worries about him seeing his contract out unlike Taylor.

 

I thought Taylor did well. Showed ability and cannot imagine he was on big money. It didn't end well but it wasn't a financial risk and his contract was up this summer anyway.

It should be noted he was a McCall signing.

 

It was a gamble worth taking, as you say he won't have been on a large salary. The lad had a lot of technical ability and had a wicked shot on him but never seemed to fit the team environment and i suspect he's had this problem throughout his career. A player like Marshall in the fact he would get you out of your seat. Hope things work out for him.

 

Me too. Personally Id have him back if he sorts himself out but that ship probably sailed.

Both I think. Such a shame great talent. Would need a lot of support that we probably wouldn’t be able to supply.

 

I'd heard it was drink related but nothing was ever released by the club. A lot of pressure on sports stars these days and these pressures are handled in a lot of different ways.
