Im not saying you are wrong but it has gone far too far in some cases. You cant say much nowadays without some wetwipe getting offended. And a lot of the time its on someone elses behalf.

 

Of course not. That would be very cruel behaviour towards someone who's obviously too stupid to have noticed that society has moved on.

 

What's wrong with being offended on someone else's behalf? Especially if that person isn't in a position to articulate their distress at being singled out for ridicule.

I don't ring Offcom. Never have. Never will. I think it's mostly Daily Express types doing the complaining these days.
Labour were 'wiped out' because of our ridiculous first past the post electoral system. More people voted left of centre - Labour, LibDem or Green, than right, yet we ended up with a landslide Tory government. An unrepresentative combination of ex-industrial northern towns and shire seats contain the majority of swing seats that determine election results. Meanwhile, the huge urban populations living in cities, which are generally socially liberal, are essentially disenfranchised. In any sensible system we'd now have a centre or centre left coalition government that actually represents the views of the majority of the electorate.
Don't make the mistake of thinking that this forum is representative of society as a whole. It's not.

 

I disagree. It's usually not difficult to distinguish between satire - usually aimed at deflating those in positions of power and privilege - and offensive material based on belittling those in less fortunate or marginalised circumstances.
Anyone who wouldn't recognise that (eg) the nigger jokes in Blazing Saddles are satire should probably stick to watching dross on daytime TV.

As with all things you can laugh at what ever you want, you can do what ever you want but sometimes doing things that you want have consequences. some people like to drive fast, but there are consequences. People used to drink and drive and it was acceptable but now it isn’t, again you can do but there are consequences

You are correct in that blazing saddles was a comedy classic. But i'm being really honest with you here, todays world does not allow for satire, its a world of people looking to be offended at the slightest opportunity. The younger generation of today wouldn't understand the self deprecation of the film becuase they wouldn't be able to get past a white man saying nigger without losing their shit.
