Hopefully that is the case for all future signings while he is manager/head coach

I'm behind this. undoubtedly a player Hopkin knows and has brought in - i'll back his judgement - lets hope things stay this way on the recruitment front.

we needed reinforcements, lets hope he has an impact.

We badly needed a central midfielder and Hopkin brings one in. Haven't seen him play but looks to have experience which we lack. The positive for O'Brien is he cannot be any worse than the central midfielders currently plying their trade at Valley Parade.

Maybe, just seems like the direct type of player that will carry the ball into the final 3rd. Either run at goal or supply a cross. That for me has been one of the most noticeable problems so far this season. Of course we’ve had minimal organisation, motivation and direction under Collins, yet we’ve played our game in our 3rd or the middle of the park. We’ve not spent enough time in the final 3rd.

Doyle, who is clearly a good striker and dangerous in the box and facing goal, has found himself being used as we used Wyke as a target man, which hasn’t worked one bit. To get a touch, we’ve seen him drop so deep into his own half to collect the ball. He’s not going to score goals from there. To get midfielders who will drive the ball into the final 3rd, will allow him to get on the end of crosses and face goal. That way we’re playing to his strengths. Scannell will do that on the right, Payne and Colville seem to push on, the gap seems to be in the left now with the absence of Robinson.

Personally I’d like to see the defensive midfield of Wright (for certain) and Akpan if he’s not fit (although I reckon he’d be a good player with good coaching, fitness and organisation) dropped and replaced by Payne plus another who drive the ball forward, with someone on the left. I honestly don’t think we’ve got a bad squad. I think we’re short on numbers yet with a few more quality additions and decent coaching from DH, we could see results picking up

On the positive, he might now be the fittest player in the squad!

radford City have completed the signing of midfielder Jim O’Brien.

The former Celtic and Motherwell player, who has previously enjoyed spells in England with Coventry, Scunthorpe, Shrewsbury and Barnsley, has agreed a short-term contract with the club.

O’Brien, 30, will be a Bantam until at least the end of December and signs following a successful trial period under head coach David Hopkin.

The ex-Ross County man said: “I am really excited to be officially joining the club, it is something I have been working towards for a while.

“I have had to be patient but the gaffer is happy with where I am at fitness-wise and they believe I can add something to the team.

“This is a massive club and it is a real privilege to be here. The fanbase is fantastic and I will give my all.

“It is a relatively short-term deal, so I have an opportunity to earn a longer-team contract.

“When you play for a big club there is always pressure. But I am determined to work hard and make the most of the chance I have been given by David.”

City head coach David Hopkin added: “We are delighted Jim has agreed to join us.

“He is a very experienced player and he will bring a lot to the table.

“Jim adds to what we have. We aren’t interested in just signing any player. We have to know they can make a difference.

“He has trained with us this week and will hopefully come into the mix for Saturday.”

O’Brien’s signing is subject to international clearance.

Good news that it's Hopkin in the photo with him, hopefully his signing and his only.

Imagine how confusing it’s going to be for me with the prediction league entries lol. I'm going to have to keep an eye on entries and make sure everyone states specifically which one they are selecting

I remember him from his days at Coventry. Hopefully, he is fit enough to come straight in and make a difference to a much depleted midfield.
The incentive is certainly there for him to earn a longer contract

Welcome and good luck to Jim.
A team we were asked to believe in just a couple of weeks back. DH is going out and having to patch up a squad using free agents to galvanise a team capable of staying up.
