They have manipulated the fair play b/s by giving out massively lengthy contracts to incomers. The lad last week from Donetsk got a 8.5 year deal!!!
Several other newcomers got deals over 5 years or so.
I believe , on the basis that Chelsea have sussed it, FIFA are looking at the rules. I think they are hedging spending levels by spreading out these deals over a longer timescale.

They sell a few players from the reserves and any new signings are made on long term deals so the fee is spread out over the course of the contract so if they sign a player for £100mil on a 5 year deal that only counts as £20mil this year. They throwing everything at trying to get in the champions league next season and will deal with the cost later on.

They've exploited a loophole in FFP and are signing players on 8 year contracts. Amortization of fees means that if they buy a player for say 40M on a 8 year deal they carry 5M as the cost in their FFP return, even if they've paid the selling club up front. The extra benefit is if they sell a home grown player the full amount of the fee received is credit against the FFP.

And inevitably they'll be stuck with a huge squad, with multiple players who aren't playing but have 5 or 6 years left on a contract but who'd still have inflated transfer values. Madness. Good luck shifting those players on. Might seem exciting for their fans right now, but it'll destroy them.

    Sounds perfect for us.

Our biggest need going into the window was for a technical, ball playing, creative midfielder. Ideally one who could chip in a few goals and be better on set pieces than Smallwood is. We're going to sign someone for every position except that one.

Didn't Hendrie play LB when Halliday missed a few games injured at the start of the season.

They know if they can't sell them they can always loan them out and get a loan fee like they've currently got Lukaku out on loan but got a loan fee of £9mil. Their issue will be when the new FIFA rules come in place that you can only loan out a set amount of players on an international loan so they'll need to find more Premier League clubs to take the players and pay them a fee.

Going rate these days. If McBurnie is £20 million then this is probably cheap.

Another good reason why we never want to be anywhere near that stinking Premier league, championship would be impossible to sustain for us at today's prices, better off where we are or Div 1 at best ....sorry, just being realistic ...

The only way we'd be able to compete at championship level is through a very good youth system with a couple of old pros and some high stat based foreigners from Norway/Denmark etc like a Brentford model. Or have a new chairman with lots of money.

With Songo’o disappointingly gone and Odusina not trusted it makes sense to sign Stubbs if it happened. Experienced cover and a chance to assess him for next season

Not really. That'll be the 5th centre back Hughes has signed in 6 months despite having a fairly solid and consistent pairing all season.

That makes it either very poor recruitment or a continuation of the "scatter gun" approach whereby we end up with 3 or 4 signings some weeks not even making our bench. It's bizarre.

Injury record/risk aside maybe its thinking for next season. Songo'o won't be here and Critchlow isn't ours so makes sense to get someone in now?
