January 2023 - Transfer Talk - Stick or Twist

I was younger then, but I thought Johnson was shite, but he did seem to have a couple of admirers.

Hard working lad who couldn't hit a barn door is my recollection.

Limited ability, good athlete, but some were blinded by his age and the fact he came from Man Utd, which ultimately made no difference.

 

The older players signed from them haven't been all that great either...certainly not compared to who we've signed from the blue side of Manchester.

But if my memory does not lie, there was one good youngster from the red side: Karl Goddard -- but that was so long ago that there's been time for someone to have been born and become a grandparent (just) since then!

Surely this is the type of forward we should be courting. Not unproven kids with poor records in senior football.

 

Karl Goddard was my first "favourite" player as a lad. Loved it when he'd just stand there doing kick ups and tricks while everyone else stretched and warned up.

 

Aye, Adonis , springs to mind. Wonder what happened to him Dave?

Pipedream I'd imagine but certainly one I'd be very, very delighted with.

Indeed; up there with our best keepers. He did come to us from Middlesbrough, however, not directly from Man U. I was thinking in particular of Mike Duxbury.

As for Goddard, he suffered an injury that effectively ended his career. Knee, I think it was. He did come back for a half-a-season or so with us, then went out on loan down south, and finally was transferred to Hereford, where he played just a handful of matches. A great pity, as there was a real talent there.

I reckon we will see Sutton & FCD leave on loan and possibly 1 incoming midfield player on loan.

Where have you heard this. I never hear anything, i must move in the wrong circles.
I do think though, that we will have movement both ways before the window closes

 

I'll be surprised if we aren't receiving offers for players who haven't played much. I reckon it's possible we'll see some going out before the deadline. Not sure we'll be signing any more.
