Folk on here happy to let Cook go ........., is this the same Cook whose our top scorer ???? That Cook maybe if our manager got his head of his arse and used him the right way then we wouldn’t be having this conversation............still no doubt if he goes and he does start scoring the same folk thinking it was good business letting him go will be on here crying that we shouldn’t have ............. honestly just sort that fooking non existent midfield out and we are the way to winning the battle

Finding the Wrexham link a very weird one, they really don't need another forward. It makes no sense.

Mullin speaks for himself and they pair him up with Ollie Palmer, who they spent £300K on this time last year and he's got 27 in 46 starts in the league, he's hardly struggling. They signed Sam Dalby in the summer, a 3 year deal young target man to be the Palmer back up, he knows he wont start there behind them two. Also they've got Elliott Lee who is the 3rd choice mainly, gets more game time than Dalby but Lee has mainly played in L1/Champ for the majority of the year and only joined Wrexham in the summer on a 3 year deal on good money.

So unless one of the main two leave, which I doubt anyone at this or even L1 will match what Mullin and Palmer are on, Cook would leave here to go sit on the bench somewhere else? Also, they don't tend to sign older players. They signed Tozer when he just turned 31 and that looks like their oldest signing, in fact currently he's 32 and their only outfielder over 30, they don't tend to sign players coming to their final years under new money, so it seems weird that they'd they sign a guy who turns 33 at the start of next season.

If not, promotion will certainly be walking out of it.

Who isn’t even in the starting 11?

    Dilemma’s as I said before.

    If I were a betting man, I’m not, I’d wager he’s going.

Im not suggesting he should or shouldn’t, but highlighting the conundrum of this contract cycle.

He's actually spent the majority of his career in non league. 10 of 15 seasons he's been playing first team football, including this one and has scored 56 goals in the five seasons at L1 or L2 level. He was 26 before he made it to the FL.

You are right, he isn't going to get any better and probably only has two full seasons left in him. Is it a disaster if we get £100,000 for him ?

I'd swap Cook for Mullin all day long and twice on a Sunday. Not happening though.

    I thought exactly the same.
I keep an eye on Wrexham as I worked in that area for a while and worked with a few of their fans.
One thing they don’t do is struggle for goals.
They’ve 64 in 25 games, which is only a few short of what Orient and Stevenage have got combined in lge 2.
They must go up this year after falling just short last year,so selling Mullin or Palmer now when the top spot looks to be between just them and Notts county would be madness and highly unlikely due to their wages.
Like you,I just can’t see where Cook fits in.

Given Hughes isn’t playing him then it’s not a disaster.
I’d disagree with Hughes not playing him, though, when all said and done.
I’m not worried about whether he’ll deliver in a year or two (based upon he probably has a couple of years left in him), it’s the loss of his goals now that concerns me.
He’s scored what, 15,16? And the rest of the team put together have probably not even scored that combined.
It’s madness that Hughes thinks we are better off with him on the bench!

Wouldn't surprise me. Was discussing this very thing with Bronco the other day and that a bid of around £100,000 would more than likely get a player out of contract in the summer.

Whilst I don't doubt other clubs might be interested in Cook, it would surprise me that Wrexham would be. They have Mullin and Palmef already who both find the net on a regular basis. Hayden is also a regular scorer from set pieces etc. I can't imagine why another striker would be required.

Unless of course they'd like to do a player swap with us! Mullin would be a good outcome!

Wouldn't even be mulling that offer over, but alas pure fantasy- City only let their goalscorers leave not bring them in!

Absolutely it would make sense for all parties. We get money whereas we wouldn’t, and Cook would get a two year deal?

I still have bad dreams about us letting Sean McCarthy leave. What a monster he was.

Mullin is looking to leave Wrexham according to some reports so it could be plausible

I'd rather we keep him to help us make sure we do that!
I get the argument some are putting forward that Hughes won't play him so we might as well cash in, but 70k isn't a massive amount in the grand scheme of things, especially where strikers that actually score goals are concerned. If Oliver, Costelloe and Derbyshire don't deliver the goods, what will we do then?

popping in and out of the message board , as i am meant to be working.
Just logged in again and its made my eyes bleed. £70k for Cook. you have to replace those 16 goals . You wont do it with that sort of money and there is no guarantee a replacement will score at the same level ( Oliver)
Sheer madness, play the guy and let his contract run down and let him leave for free , or he gets the goals to help us move up and offer him a 12 month deal, he cost us nothing. Unless his replacement is already here ( Derbyshire )
Now i would not put that past city, they did give the guy 18 months.
