Bit surprised with Dieng, he always seemed a favourite at Exeter, at least with Taylor, possibly not with the new guy.

Slightly off thread on two fronts, Gills seem to be after anyone with the new money, or perhaps just desperate to avoid the drop and second has anyone noticed Manager and Assistant at Swindon have jumped ship in a good position and joined Crawley.

That could put Clough under massive pressure.

Apparently he's been in several 'team of the week' sides, this season.

I also think we write off Odusina too soon (like we do with a lot of players). He could easily be someone who suffers when they miss the early part of a season and so just hasn't got going. Although he impressed in one match - so i still see him as a decent signing who could potentially come good.

Yep..... the new owners are after any name they can find. Would be the 3rd or 4th striker they have opened talks with in the last 2 weeks.

    upload_2023-1-13_8-31-34.png

Had a look on twitter when Scott Lindsey left Swindon, from the sounds of things their fans weren't sold on him anyway but the general noise was that he would be daft to turn down the money. When they were discussing with Jack Payne at the end of last season, Swindon said that their best possible offer couldn't match what Crawley were offering Payne, until Garner left for Charlton and took Payne with him.

Agreed! I’m not asking for him to jump on his soapbox, but it’s unusual to have not heard from him for a while (based on his previous form).

Football isn't an exact science and for every player that makes it via a transfer there are at least the same number that don't. Take George Cooper for instance. A talent that has moved for decent money between clubs, played all his career in league one, now at Chesterfield at the age of 25. Need to see more of Odusina, like any player, before having an opinion as to if he has a future here or elsewhere. Circumstances can dictate as to how successful a career a player has, managers move on, new ones don't fancy a player or the player doesn't fit the new managers way of playing. A prime example Jake Young. We haven't seen a lot of him but Mark Hughes has. If you can't even get on the bench after the departure of Wright and the poor form of Periara who still gets on that bench then thats when i would suggest a player isn't going to be a success here. Unless for some reason Hughes departs then we could have a Mark Marshall scenario where Parkinson clearly didn't want him but McCall got him a player of the season award the season after.
    Strange game this football.

Banged up in May 1969 and "active" from about 1952 to that date (in theory). Basically descended into madness for the last two or three years and made increasingly irrational decisions. If Reggie hadn't gone down when they owned Esmeralda's Barn they would probably have gone on the "legitimately" control all of London and be very rich men, but when Reggie was down, Ronnie starting acting like the dictator of a banana republic and sent them on the road to ruin.

Very strange. Odusina must have had some real talent to be spotted by Gent, and when/ if he leaves us will probably go on to realise it. Other than those who make it to the very top, there are very few players who consistently build on success with every move, and at our level almost every player will have at least one bad experience at a club that they need to "recover" from.

Lets face it, the difference between even semi professionals and saturday league players is huge. I used to play 5 a-side with two lads who had been on the books at Hull City but both had bad injuries, and the difference between those two any everyone else on the pitch, even on a 5 a-side pitch, was unbelievable.

Bottom line, if you make it as a professional footballer, and even have a half decent career at National League level, you are pretty damn good at football.

Yes, strange move that, though Lindsay has very little experience so perhaps the bigger shock is him be a relative success at Swindon. That said, to move from there to Crawley has to be about money.

I think Odusina just needs the right partner and a few good games to build his confidence. Could be Platt isnt the right partner.

Odusina may not make it at all. Look at those on here banging the drum for Reece Staunton after he'd had one or two decent performance. Personally i never saw the hype. Now at semi pro level at BPA. Folk use this term talent' a lot or 'good tekkers' as the kids would say. Ultimately means Jack Schitt unless you actually walk the walk on the pitch.

One for the future (?) or in layman’s terms, it’s up to him to make it happen…If he doesn’t then ……..As you say, we have seen it all before.

well our midfielders must look like world beaters in training because they offer very little when it comes to match day :( Chapman must be hitting 30 yards piledrivers in the same sessions and Smallwood must be a dead ball specialist of the highest order ............

They were around from the late 1950s to 1967 and the betting scandal was the early 60s, not sure they were involved.

Very true Rog, but Odusina has already had success at another pro club, whereas Staunton was just out of nappies. Of the two, my money would be on Odusina to have a half decent pro career, even if it is back at a club like Hartlepool.

Problem is, he's now arguably 4th choice. 5th, if you consider Songo plays there as well (and played well at Sutton)

I think a spell out on loan is now needed.

There are some serious questions to be asked about our recruitment when you look at the players we've signed this season. I'd say the duds far outnumber the successes, and those given 3 year contracts have barely featured. In addition, we've signed many wide players and yet end up with Sutton and Gilliead as the current wide players, two who were here before Hughes. Meanwhile, our midfield is terrible and understaffed, but there seems to be no urgency to improve it. As soon as Wright leaves, however, he's immediately replaced with yet another winger.
We started the season wanting to play a particular system yet signed a number of players who don't fit into it.
We've eventually changed to some sort of new system but don't seem to have the players for that either.
One could be forgiven for taking the view that our management and recruitment team don't seem to know what they're doing.

1968 Broncs. They were arrested in May 1968 and came to trial the following year.
