He's only just gone to Burton ?.

On 20 July 2020, Vernam joined League One club Burton Albion on a two-year contract.

 

Might be a 6 month loan maybe?

 

If we are in for Vernham I'd be very happy, the lad is just what we're looking for.

 

If we do sign him, then I hope it's as an attacking midfielder, rather than a striker. 16 goals in 91 appearances says to me, he'd be better off supplying goals than scoring them. Looks nice and direct. Looking at Rowe on Saturday, if we do get someone who can play the ball into the box/6 yard area, then I'd prefer Rowe not to come so deep. Fair enough he can shoot from distance, but I think he'd benefit from wingplay if he's in the box, rather than outside it.

 

Clarke and Evans can both play on the right as we have seen in recent games and they are always swapping sides then you add Stevens to that and we are no weaker down the right than as down the left. Pritchard has much as I like him he plays a few games then is injured for a few games.

 

I still hope we are looking at some midfield cover, we looked awful in the last 15 minutes on Saturday when Sutton went off and Cooke went back into a midfield 2 with Watt, and we can do without being in a situation where Sutton is injured/suspended and that's our midfield pairing again.

 

I wouldn’t be getting to excited about this with the amount of interest from leagues 1 and 2 were probably not in the driving seat. I wonder why Burton who are struggling badly are trying to get him out the door

Sounds sensible if we can get the right folk in.

 

Think they are looking at more ready made league one experience to get them out of trouble. Plus new management pair in charge. Different to the one who signed him so always players leaving who they are not as keen on

 

Sounds like we have a few irons in the fire and whoever comes in at least we have a week to get them involved with the squad before the next match.

 

Whoever we sign, or don't, today, you have to take your hat off to the way they have identified and acknowledged the issues that existed and plugged the gaps with round pegs for round holes, whilst getting the lesser standard players out of the club quickly and efficiently. None of them having left and gone straight on the dole.

Despite the timing of the announcement, Turnbull must have been working behind the scenes before Stuart left for him to have worked so quickly, and I wonder if he was getting negative kickback from McCall that ultimately made Sparks (and Rupp) realise that to move forward we had to remove McCall first.

It would certainly appear, from the speed and efficiency of the signings and from the upturn in results through a change of system but no wholesale introduction of new players to the team (we were winning games before Rowe signed) that the problem was Stuart McCall and Kenny Black.

 

It feels like we are going into the final few hours without the usual we need 4 or 5. We probably need 1 maybe 2 would be perfect but it’s not the end of world if we don’t get anyone with salary cap etc to think about.

As per suggestions elsewhere, City are thought to be in pole position for Vernam - but there is still competition.

 

We weren't exactly solid with Watt and Sutton for me though. Let's get a genuine first choice midfielder and let the 3 of them battle it out for the 2 spots. That's how you improve.
