    I'd have loved it if the ref had stopped the game just as the lad went clean through to score. Then restart with the Belgium team back behind the ball.

    Now that would have been justice and excellent punishment for the play actor.

    Ironic don't you think that Belgium could only score after Doku fell over in the penalty area after the slightest of touches from the Italian defender.

    Could look at it as game management, albeit taken to the extreme.

    They played some superb football last night, but the last fifteen minutes did annoy me. I felt it was unfair on Belgium.

    My thoughts exactly. Tremendous football but then marred by some appalling dive/play acting.

    Trouble is after Fabrice Muamba and more recently Christian Eriksen, the authorities rightly have to treat injuries very seriously.

    There needs to be some considered thought and a range of solutions to deal with the whole situation.

    The BBC sport caught the italian striker lying down in the penalty area, dying and trying to con a penalty and they score their first goal and he checks where the ref is and promptly gets up as nothing happened.

    Quality comedy.

    To be honest, everyone knows they do it, its a massive part of Italian football and pretty much always has. You would see it all the time back in the early 90's when Channel 4 was the only place to basically watch regular live football on terrestrial TV with their Italian coverage (and their excellent Highlights show which was way more than just highlights and aired at a reasonable hour unlike the English highlight shows that air too late for many kids to be allowed to watch)

    TBH I don't think Belgium has ever been good. They are that classic example of a group of great individuals but who basically play as individuals.

    I doubt it, but I hope they do. If England can manage to get past Denmark then I'd fancy our chances against Spain more than Italy.

    Fair point. I remember watching the Italian football on C4 and it was certainty very different to the English football that I was used to.

    I would have been pleased if the VAR picked up on it and he got booked for diving. Alternatively he should leave the pitch for attention, and only be allowed back on when checked by the medical team! Perhaps there needs to an independent doctor/medical team in these games (fees removed from the team bonus).
