Don't take this the wrong way because there's no underlying message in it, and I'm not racist in the slightest, but I would absolutely love a big black centre half in the mould of Bruno or Joe Cooke. I've always wanted us to sign Aaron Pierre, big hard bastards at the back with attitude are what a team is built on.

What difference does the colour of their skin make to the kind of player you want?

You dont see many lightweight black CBs. Usually very strong and athletic so guessing thats what he means. I will give him benefit of the doubt.....just!!!

Well, as I see it, this and the original comment are why taking the knee at football matches is still relevant.

What a load of rubbish. In no way we’re those comments intended on being racist. Stop looking to be outraged for the sake of it.
We all understood his point on the characteristics. What a weird bunch of people we are becoming. To scared to say anything.

I don't know, saying its odd to have a light black CB is is straight up racist. Theres a suggestion that based on skin colour they should fit a certain stereotype. Its like being surprised at a tall asian or something. That probably sounds ludicrous right? So why is fair to suggest all black people are huge?

maybe not as racist as throwing bananas on the pitch but still racist.

Having a light CB is true that is peculiar but then to suggest all black people are big and burley is really odd to suggest.

also don't really think anyone is “outraged” here. All he is doing is calling something out. Not very “outrageous” to me

I have to say that when I watch teams like 'Palace I am struck by how many footballers of African descent are usually the stand out athletes on the pitch. And I refer to the desire to unearth similar players for our football club.I suppose I am therefore differentiating by colour when defining the quality and ability of those players I would love to see the like of here.

Do you not think that the weird bunch of people are those who assume that such characteristics are defined by skin colour?
I think most of us did understand his point on 'characteristics', despite his caveat. Not being intentionally racist doesn't mean we don't say stupid things sometimes. It seems to me that not being 'scared to say anything' applies just as much to those who challenge racism as to those responsible for it. I wonder if we're more afraid to reflect and apologise when we do unintentionally mess up.

Totally agree. People have become far too offended by the slightest thing. Yesterday during the trooping of the colour, The Irish guards were called the micks. It is not meant to offend , just a term of endearment among the men of the British forces.
There is a line that should not be crossed and on this occasion i do not believe saying someone is big and black has crossed the line. It is after all a statement of fact.

So , is calling me an average sized white man racist , no its a statement of fact , i am average build and white, also i am not offended by anyone calling me that.
We all have our own opinions on this , but it is those that shout the loudest that seem to get their way, correct or not. I rest my case.

You are talking nonsense. Where is the suggestion all black people are huge? Although I mean if you want to get deep about it, genetically I think they are bigger in a lot of cases. Black men tend to have more fast twitch muscle fibres and higher bone density than white men. It’s fact.
You were outraged enough to call someone out on it… even though he had tried to reiterate in his post it wasn’t racist.
Like I said, I think most posters will have understood what he meant without pretending to be offended.

on this forum!? Give your head a shake.

this whole thing about “wokery” does make me laugh.

Do we really think those in the 60s or 50s thought the homophobic abuse that was going about at the time was wrong? Yet people now agree that was wrong. It used to be PC this and that now its Woke this and woke that.

Heres one for ya to bite at - Jamaican players are fast. Infact, alot of Jamaicans are quick on their feet. Daley, JJ, Sterling, Bolt, Bobsleigh team...

While we are at it we lack some silky, skillful south americans too. Need to widen our net and look abroad.

So you could infer that you do see many heavyweight (huge) black CB’s right?

If you reply to any post on here are you outraged? Im really not that fussed, i just spent 2 minutes replying to something I didn’t particularly agree with. If thats what outrage means everyone is outraged on here!
