Of course he is. He is responsible for recruiting mainly shite in the last 2 years.
It's not all down to him of course, but we needed a clean sweep when they sacked Collins, and it doesn't make sense that Abbo and Drury are still here.

In answer to the question.
Of course he bloody is.
Since Rahic came in he has been the right hand man to the De Facto Director of Football.
1/3rd of the much maligned Transfer Commitee and now part of the coaching structure (Although with Hopkin in charge, I reckon he just put's the cones out now).
If that doesn't make him culpable, I don't know what wouldn't.
Quite sure he's a thoroughly nice decent chap and all that, but as for picking footballers for our club.

We've signed pretty much every type of player since he's been here. The only common denomination between then all seems to be that they're almost all worse than the player they replaced and are generally mentally weak. I can't believe they were the criteria Rahic was looking for.NorthernMonkey, Inspector, WilsdenBantam and 3 others like this. -
Josh Wright and Jim O'Brien. Both freebies. Both not young. One is twice the player the other is but which one did Abbott target?

Weirdly no. I thought they were decent signings in the summer but I was only judging them on paper. When I've actually seen them on grass they are the worst collection of players I've ever had the misfortune to see pull on the claret and amber. No heart, no talent, little desire, no obvious pride.
Let's not get into the bollocks of picking random players that got better over time from a much higher starting point. This is the ridiculous viewpoint that has had you championing some some of the worst players I've ever seen. Most players who perform badly do so because they're bad players. It's not that difficult. That a few player buck that trend does not mean that all players can't be judged on the shit they produce.Tolly856, Bronco, Bantam@{Lancs} and 1 other person like this. -

Talks a good talk (or at least he did in the early days) but sadly he’s not up to the job.
The ever increasing trend in modern football is the accountability of others within the club as well as the manager (as seen at Everton and West Brom recently). I think we need to show the same level of accountability within our own club and start making changes within the club hierarchy as well as the manager/players.
Abbott needs to go and we need a proper chief scout / director of football / CEO.Two Legs, Foghornleghorn and Inspector like this. -

But Wright, Doyle and Mellor all have plenty of experience playing first team football for average League One teams, so why they now look out of their depth all of a sudden is beyond me. Meanwhile, Scannell may just be 'that' guy, a bit like Gilliead, talented but with zero end product.
I wouldn't downplay the idea they don't like a certain factor at the club, though, because that's been an absolute constant since Stuart McCall began to lose his grip on our first team's performances. Since the moment EVEN STUART couldn't motivate a Bradford City XI, nobody else has even come close to addressing the problems. And this lot have only been here a few months!Bronco, Ricc and Apperley Bridge Bantam like this. -

Absolutely Abbott is part of the problem not only does he recommend the players he goes and watches them play reports to Edin and whoever is in charge of his findings. They then decided as a group to sign or not(Abbott's own words).
-
I'm massively surprised that a lot of these players aren't rated more highly given the performances and results that's achieved. -
The recruitment has been poor but we don’t know whose names he came up with that Rahic ignored or would n’t pay the going rate for. Then there was his appointment assisting Collins. If we knew it was ridiculous, what did Abbo the professional think of appointing Collins? Well he took his place in his coaching team so he must have bought into Rahic’s idiotic idea. Sad to say but if he still has some pride left after cosying up to Rahic he should walk and if not Hopkin should replace him. We need to start again.
