Blackburn away was always going to be well attended, simply for the pull of a ground we've not visited in a long time and the attraction of a decent ground with a fairly large crowd.

Swap that with Port Vale away in the same circumstances and on tv. I'd guess that the away following would be around half with the rest not bothering to travel and watching it at home instead.

If it works like this season it will be. The first 500 i follow passes that the away team supporters buy go to the home club, after that the away team take £8.50 for every pass bought. City are selling almost 3000 for away games now and getting over £21,000 for each game. It’s great previously untapped money and City are very keen for i follow to continue. In the end it will be down to all the EFL clubs to decide the future of it.

Away teams never have and never will take profits from gate receipts unless it’s a cup game

The away team get a handling fee for each ticket that they physically sell. I don't think it's much but they do get something

Yes. It's trifling - 5% on away ticket sales.

Do you actually believe that? I've actually got no idea how you'd reply to someone with that mindset.

Before 1983 all Football League gate receipts were shared, with 20% going to the away team and a further percentage levied (I think 5%) which was then split between all 92 clubs.

That was changed under pressure from the biggest clubs who threatened to form a breakaway if they didn't get to keep receipts from their home games. Of course that just delayed the inevitable until 1992 and the Premier League.

Exactly. Not the best, but it's been a worthwhile second best to keep us all involved. And as you rightly point out, there have been more people on Bantam Talk than I can remember.

I think home games is a far more contentious issue.

There may come a time, when you find it more difficult, to actually make the long journey to City, I doubt that your love for the club will stop at that time, so options for supporters need to be thought through.

It is great that you make that journey, my mere 60 mile round trip pales, when compared to that level of commitment.

Can I ask you a few questions?
    • Have you watched City on i-player?
    • Have you watched any away games on i-player?
    • Would you honestly have gone to Exeter, Cheltenham or Newport?
    • Did you watch any of those games on i-player?
    • If you chose not to watch City on i-player, do you think that should be forced on other fans?
    • Do you think City will have benefited financially from the i-follow income?
    • Do you accept that ‘illegal’ streaming is available and by forcing i-follow ‘underground’, that will encourage some to break the law?
    • If you were unable to travel due to health, finance, time, weather, family commitments, would you still like to follow City and support your club through i-Follow?

Me too. I even find myself distracted with my phone for long periods and even visit the toilet while the game is in play which I never do at VP.

Good Morning Bigrod thank you for your guide line very informative. I will still attended away games when I can with family and friends . To me it is the enjoyment of travelling and meeting people while I still can . I do agree with your comments maybe a difficult decision for yourself you do seem to be enjoying your excellent choice of ales while watching I - follow. If travelling to away games it maybe Carling Darling .

I went for a 1500 + 908 figure as that would be under 2,500. Yes we have apparently sold more than 3,000, but that has been during a spell when the club has been doing well and there are fewer alternatives given the Coronavirus restrictions on other activities. I would think the figures are a reasonable average over a whole season.

Even if we went on the basis of a 50/50 split of the £13,500, after the EFL had deducted 10%, then over a season that could be about £155,000 extra, which could pay the salary of a decent striker in League Two!

Needs to happen for away games.

The negative connotations are a little passé. As many eyes watching as many games as possible is what's best for football, no question about it.

It's also not going to put people off a trip if they're inclined to plan such things in anyway.

I'd also make home games available at a standard rate. Something like a season ticket for home attendance = £150, a season ticket for TV only = £150, a season ticket entitling holder to both = £200. Game by game, £10 to watch from home. Reckon the £50 premium season ticket would allay fears that fans would stop turning up.

See you got a dusting of snow as well. This is a Brass Monkey :x3: sort of day, glad to pay a £10 to watch it from the warmth of my home, although I do miss the match day buzz.

Then again there are those who don’t have Season Tickets! Good job the 9,039 of us did, or there wouldn’t be a club.;)

I think they might at first, then season on season and especially when we're not doing so well the figures imo would drop off at a rapid rate.

If every game is screened there is very little incentive to get off your backside and make the effort unless it's a big game.

There'll also be plenty of lads that will spend the money meeting mates and watching it in the boozer instead.
