I'd suggest with a year of people getting used to being able to watch all away games on TV that ship has already sailed... when people who aren't going to the game anyway aren't given the opportunity to pay to watch it live in the future they are left with the option of using an illegal stream for free or not watching at all. Either option leaves the clubs short of the money they might have paid.

I do understand what you're saying with regards to the risk of lower away attendances... it's probably going to be weighing up the costs either way but I suspect most people who would go to an away game would go anyway, it's not just about being able to watch the game. The hope is the relatively few people who don't attend to watch it on home instead are outweighed by those who watch at home when they wouldn't have done so at all

This is a day where fans need to put their tellies outside and recall the joys of a cold day in the stands!

I probably go to most away games that are an hour and a half to two hour drive on a Saturday and about an hour during the week. I also go to London games, given family. But places like, Southend, Colchester, Exeter, Crawley, Stevenage, Forest Green, Cheltenham, Cambridge, Newport are too far away. Closer, but I wouldn’t go to Grimsby, Carlisle, Mansfield, Scunthorpe, Walsall for an evening game. Then there is the weather, in the middle of winter going to places like Port Vale or Fleetwood can be a lottery if the weather is poor. So the option of a legitimate way to watch games I wouldn’t/couldn’t get to appeals to me.

And this is the reason I don't understand why some people are set against it. Nobody that is in favour of ifollow continuing to be offered is saying it will lead to them going to fewer games, but they are saying (if it was available), that they would purchase an ifollow pass to watch the games they were never going to be attending in the first place! That is extra income for the club right there, and I don't see why anyone would be against that. Sparks has said he wants to see it continue to be offered so he obviously feels it is an income generator going forward, rather than devil in disguise some on here seem to think it is.

I don't buy this argument that it will stop people going, its just not true. You might get a few dozen people that will decide to watch on TV rather than go to the game but i personally don't know of anyone who will use ifollow when they have the opportunity to go, merely only using that opportunity when being there is not an option.

It would lead to people going less and therefore lower attendances though and once the cat is out of the bag it's generally impossible to put it back in.

You're basing your opinion on the posts of 3 or 4 posters on here but we all know that this forum doesn't represent the whole of the Bradford City community and there are plenty of genuine (and non genuine reasons) people can't make games. Putting every game on TV just makes it all the simpler to convince yourself that the 3 hour round trip isn't worth it or it's dropped a bit cold today.

Midweek away games being televised could be a good compromise though due to the majority of working fans struggling to make those games.

Another factor to be taken into account, is that some of our current localish teams have a very small away allocation. Think Harrogate, Salford, Mansfield, Barrow and Morecambe, these grounds all have very small capacity and far fewer spaces, than City could take.

Always enjoyed a good old away game mid week. Always fun at Boro, Huddersfield and Oldham to name a few

Sorry Monkey, the vast majority of people will still go to away games regardless of ifollow, the ones that watch on ifollow wouldn't have gone to the game anyway.

I think they might at first, then season on season and especially when we're not doing so well the figures imo would drop off at a rapid rate.

If every game is screened there is very little incentive to get off your backside and make the effort unless it's a big game.

There'll also be plenty of lads that will spend the money meeting mates and watching it in the boozer instead.

That was already an option prior to Covid.

The whole away day is the trip to exotic shitholes with your mates and taking over a pub. Not sure where this idea of watching the game in a local with your mates comes from, can't think of anything more boring.

I did it back in the PL days when it was on sky. We were getting spanked week on week so a few times I just stayed in the pub to watch it and got banjoed instead.

This makes sense as you wouldn't be going due to various reasons you mention. The ifollow option hasn't then stopped you going as you weren't going anyway, infact its an extra revenue stream that otherwise would be lost.

Oh right. So it's okay for you to base your opinions on what you did back in the day, but not alright for others to base theirs on what a lot of other people are saying right here right now?

I know of Leeds fans that did that back in their league1 days where thousands would take over a small town then never get to the game. But that was different as they always filled out their allocations so the away club still made their money.

I've offered an opinion based on things that actually happened so in effect, is fact. It's also based on a group of around 10 to 15 supporters who were all ST holders at the time.
You're pushing your side of the debate based on what people are suggesting they will do in the future, if or when the games are made available. That's the big difference.
