The lack of goals from defenders, particularly from corners and free kicks, can be put down to the absence of a decent dead ball specialist. Hughes has persisted with Smallwood on corners who either hits the first man or over hits it beyond the back post. Get someone who can actually hit the penalty spot consistently and they might have a chance. Add to that, Parkinson had a lot more corner routines than Hodges, who's supposed to be a specialist.

It’s been a really poor season in terms of end product as a team.
Whether we end the season with success or not, any assessment cannot hide from the fact we just don’t score enough (or even look like scoring enough).
Has to be addressed in the summer, whichever division we are inKopendin1964 likes this. -

The goals are definitely coming. Play hit the bar recently, Stubbs should have been given a goal on Saturday and generally we are winning more from starving set pieces.
Hopefully we've just saved them all up and we'll get half a dozen from the defenders between now and the end of the season.Kevin1954 likes this. -
OK I'll be the one.
Ridehalgh bagged against Newport.

I don't think our scoring record is as bad as people make out. Looking at the current top 3 they are on 49,52 and 51 goals. With the strong defensive record we've had we've not had to score loads of goals.
I agree it's very bad that not 1 defender has got a goal this season but in recent weeks we have looked like we were getting closer with Platt and Stubbs hitting the woodwork and Stubbs had a shot cleared off the line against Newport. -

Had a quick look back to the 2012/2013 season. Below is the table after exactly the same number of games for City.
Although we are currently 7th, with 10 points more than in 2013, then we have scored four goals less!
The big difference is how we have stopped conceding (the 2012/2013 had the much loved Davies and McArdle as the main central defenders).
So there are some significant differences. Although Davies and McArdle finished the season with 4 & 2 goals, then the current defence looks far more secure.
My view is that the ‘elephant in the room’ is the lack of goals from the other strikers and midfield.
Also check on the runaway leaders Leyton Orient, despite a gap of 13 points between us, they have only scored 4 more goals. -

Cook and Smallwood scored in the home game and Cook in the away. -

I like that league table Bigrod, one notable thing is that in 10 years, 7 of those teams have dropped out of the league altogether.
Soon to be joined by Rochdale -

I could have sworn Platt and Crichlow had gone up for corners and free kicks, but... you'd never know by looking at the statistics.
They might as well just stay on the halfway line! -
Paudie was always decent at getting on the end of a corner

Eleven of them are in League One and Rotherham are in the Championship.
