I find it astonishing that no defender has scored this seaon

I cannot remember a season like this in my near 60 years that no defender has scored (and very few throughout the rest of the team for that matter).

Just imagine where we might have been placed in the table if some of them had scored a few.

Quite bizarre really, considering most of the big boys come up for corners and free kicks.

Yep, and on the flip side, imagine if Cook had been injured.
It’s been a really poor season in terms of end product as a team.
Whether we end the season with success or not, any assessment cannot hide from the fact we just don’t score enough (or even look like scoring enough).
Has to be addressed in the summer, whichever division we are in

As I've posted in another thread getting promoted will be great but will Hughes continue with the same stuff we've played this season even with better players, our home our form and performances have been a hard watch most of the season.

We'll never know what might have happened if Cook was injured. For all we know Oliver might have found form and confidence like Cook did. Also our plan for attacking would change as currently we look to create as many chances for Cook.
I don't think our scoring record is as bad as people make out. Looking at the current top 3 they are on 49,52 and 51 goals. With the strong defensive record we've had we've not had to score loads of goals.
I agree it's very bad that not 1 defender has got a goal this season but in recent weeks we have looked like we were getting closer with Platt and Stubbs hitting the woodwork and Stubbs had a shot cleared off the line against Newport.

Cook has always scored on a regular basis of Bradford City since Clough allowed him to leave Mansfield, even last season under Adams where he made it pretty clear he was not a fan of our last manager he finished leading scorer for the season, as he had done the previous season coming to a new club with half the season played, some how from what I've seen of Oliver he hasn't looked capable of scoring on a regular basis.

The passing back/across from the back is woeful to watch. I’m not sure what it is supposed to achieve as the opponents just press and hold a line. One day, somebody is going to drop a big bollock leading to an opposition goal. I’m surprised it hasn’t already happened.

Had a quick look back to the 2012/2013 season. Below is the table after exactly the same number of games for City.
    upload_2023-3-30_15-37-18.png

Although we are currently 7th, with 10 points more than in 2013, then we have scored four goals less!

The big difference is how we have stopped conceding (the 2012/2013 had the much loved Davies and McArdle as the main central defenders).

So there are some significant differences. Although Davies and McArdle finished the season with 4 & 2 goals, then the current defence looks far more secure.

My view is that the ‘elephant in the room’ is the lack of goals from the other strikers and midfield.

Also check on the runaway leaders Leyton Orient, despite a gap of 13 points between us, they have only scored 4 more goals.

    I don't think he did?

Cook and Smallwood scored in the home game and Cook in the away.

I like that league table Bigrod, one notable thing is that in 10 years, 7 of those teams have dropped out of the league altogether.

I thought my eyes had been lying to me all season.

I could have sworn Platt and Crichlow had gone up for corners and free kicks, but... you'd never know by looking at the statistics.

They might as well just stay on the halfway line!

Always ‘look on the bright side of life’!

Eleven of them are in League One and Rotherham are in the Championship. ;)

What's even more significant is that 12 of them now play in higher divisions than us.
