We know from our recent history the value of cup wins, both financially and in terms of building belief. Hopefully that gets us up and running. Good win, and a very organised performance

Well said. That was a ridiculous comments about a player that was MOM against a Doncaster. But of course some fans don't allow a player to have one mediocre match!!

Looking a reasonably solid team. Just need a bit more awareness in the centre when the opposition are looking to lay off balls. We ball watch a bit too much but I guess that's the risk of playing 4 attack minded players.

Banks was great tonight. Good engine. Few sneaky fouls in their half to stop attacks building - we've missed that kind of nous.

Another positive - we seem capable of coming from behind which we've lacked in recent times.

Not a match winner for sure , but a useful player to have in the squad, MH seems to think so too. At the latter end of the season and last night he again he had him sat in front of the back four. It’s his best position for sure. Him and Smallwood broke up a lot of their approach work. I’m happy with him in that role if our backs are against the wall, but if we want dynamism…..Then East is the clear winner. As I said before, I believe he’s going to be the surprise package?

I have an even more unpopular view...........I thought Gilliead was MOTM.
He broke up a lot of play and passed it well.
Great bit of skill in the second half too to create the chance.
That deeper role looks perfect for him.

I believe the likes of Gilliead and Cook get singled out at times as they were both a part of that poor team under Adams, as you say both excellent last night.
We have to produce that kind of performance on Saturday against Newport and get our season up and going, backed by 17,000 fans.

My first time seeing the new team in person last night.

Thought at first Hull were very good - you could tell they are two leagues above, excellent passing and movement. When they scored, I think it was deserved on the balance of play at that point. Neither keepers had had too much to do, but they were the better side.

However, once we got the first goal it seemed to give us more belief. Great cross and header for the first, and the second seemed like a training ground move that came off!

Second half showed us as the better of the two sides I think but there wasn’t an awful lot in the way of goal mouth action - their keeper didn’t have much to do, but equally neither did Lewis.

Lewis looks like a very good keeper and an upgrade on ROD, Bass, and Hornby.

Halliday played well I thought and should be an excellent right back for us. Dare I say hopefully the best one since Darby?

Ridehalgh was steady and had a good game at LB.

Thought Platt and Crichlow looked good and quite like the look of them as a centre half pairing. I was quite concerned about their age and experience, but I think they’ll both grow into it and be more confident as they get used to each other in the next few weeks.

Gilly - still not sure what to make of his new role, but he didn’t play badly.

Banks - excellent debut. Promising signs that he will be a very effective player for us.

Chapman - was disappointed in him at times, thought he lacked ideas and belief in himself, but obviously got the assist for the 2nd goal.

Cook was excellent - a proper number 9 performance!

Probably missed a couple of players, but been typing a long time now. All in all an enjoyable night’s football.

One of those incidents kev that gets given either way depending who the bloody ref is. Personally I thought it was a smart bit of last ditch defending.

Shows the value of competition for places. We have it in most areas now.

I better get my usual seat. The wife and kids know I'm working late, so they better not be sat in my seat on the sofa when I get home to watch the match.

Just standard behaviour for the first rounds of the cup, nobody really cares unless it's a rival. Last year, Notts forest had 9,500 fans for our 1st rounder against them, then 25,000 were there the Saturday. In 19/20 we had 14,800 at home against Cambridge then only 3,500 came to watch us vs Preston in the cup. Year before that, attendance of 1400 away at Macclesfield for the cup. Before that we had over 20,000 for the first game of the season against Blackpool then just over 3,000 showed up for the cup game.

Nothing to do with club sizes, just nobody gives a toss. I can only think of Leeds at home or Huddersfield away in the last decade where fans went to early round cup games. I imagine you'll get some sort of loyalty points boost for buying a ticket? Which might incentivise some into going but when it's on the tele, even less interest in leaving the house for it.

I'd sell Gillied at half time. He's against an overweight player and still can't close him down or get past him
