Yes, his finishing definitely seems to be his weak link. He's quick and very skilful. I expect him to get more than his fair share of penalties, but hopefully to hit them a bit harder than today's effort.

 

It will have done him the world of good to open his city account today and fair play to him for stepping up to take the penalty at the end because he could quite easily have been painted as the villan tonight had he not scored. Hopefully now he has 2 goals to his name it will have taken a bit of pressure off him and he can work on his composure and decision making in front of goal so that he can keep finding the back of the net on a regular basis.

I doubt we’ll come up against many teams playing 3-4-3 in this league, so for me we did well considering 2 of our 3 first choice CM’s we’re out. Regarding Cook, I think he’s struggling for form and might be lucky to keep his place when Lavery gets up to speed. We need that 3rd striker to push both current strikers. If we can get a goal scoring 10 or poacher, we could really take the sting out of games and run out comfortable winners with the number of chances we’re creating. That said, it’s one of the hardest positions to fill.

It worked for us yesterday with a weakened team. We should have won that game 4.1 yesterday with the chances we created.

How many shots did Oldham actually have whilst they were battering us? I can recall maybe 3.

The referee yesterday was very poor. He started in the second minute when the assistant in front of the main stand signalled that the ball had gone out of play but he never noticed her flag for a period of time, And as others have said, he seemed determined that he would not allow it to appear that he was influenced by a big crowd and allowed no end of pulling/wrestling to go unpunished.

 

No, we really didn't get 'outplayed and battered'. They had 65% possession but only two shots on target, one of which was a speculative shot from distance that went in via a deflection.
We may have only had 35% possession, due in part to having our two first choice DCMs out and the third choice injured shortly after half time, but we looked about five times more likely to score than them whenever we broke forward.

 

He should have given us a penalty in the first half. Either Angol or Gilliead (I can't remember which) was blatantly pushed over in the box whilst heading towards goal. A few minutes later he penalised Angol for a much less strenuous push.

 

He is always getting into good position and making chances for himself like the one that just flashed by the post. If he keeps doing that yes he will miss plenty but he will score a few as well.
With his all round game if he was a natural finisher he wouldn’t be playing for us

 

There are going to be a fair few games where Angol gets 1 or 2 chances not 4 or 5 and then it will matter more about his finishing which was hot and cold

Comparing him to Cook who had limited chances is fine but it doesn't tell me Angol will score more than Cook

Angol showed good movement as the game wore on but Oldham were really open and I think played three at the back

It will be different trying to break teams down when every shot matters

Anyway next time is red hot Stevenage so maybe it will be open again

I’m commenting without actually being at the match, just back from a wedding do in Cheltenham!
I just wanted to point out to those moaning about our lack of possession.....
Last season under T & S we kept the ball brilliantly tried to play from the back, ultimately failed! Adam’s has a history of setting team up to press pressurise and hit teams on the break.
With the injured players back and maybe one more addition I think we will be there or there about, however anyone expecting City under Adam’s to boss the play will be very disappointed!!
I’ll take winning scrappy every day of the week over looking like a league two Barcelona whilst losing to Harrogate or bloody Barrow!!

 

Popped into the gents toilet in the 1903 suite before the kick off, and the top wooden cover on the toilet cistern was still missing just as it was the last home game back in 2020/21, the old adage comes to mind "fur coat and no knickers"

 

Yeah I thought he won a lot of headers yesterday. Especially the one where he flicked on to Angol to score. Reminded me of a certain duo we had not so long ago. I am not saying Angol is as quick as Wells but he certainly did get in some really good positions yesterday which is very encouraging as they continue to play alongside each other.

 

Yep - thought he won a good share - main problem no one running on to the ball. They'll get better as they play more games together.
