We won't win the play offs playing like yesterday. No chance!

As for yesterday. playing against the poor side at the bottom who had 10 men really shouldn't have been an ugly win.

When you put context to the era you speak of, that's a fairly depressing read. Thank god for Parky. Whilst not always enlightening, at least we a good bit of success...

 

Just trying to add a little positivity to the thread mate, we won yesterday and under T&S we have picked up a phenomenal amount of points why cant it continue.
We have to look beyond the next 7 games, if we could get to the play offs and get promoted (yes I'm probably dreaming) just imagine what that would mean to next season, league one football hopefully fans back in stadia I couldn't think of a better thing for us fans to focus on.

 

But it was and we got the points to give us that chance of a play off place.
It could all blow up in our faces come 9pm on Tuesday night, so small steps.

 

I'm not denying their achievements but long term, whether that be in league one or two, performance and entertainment levels simply have to improve, regardless of results.

 

Look mate, honestly I get the lets get into the plays off anyway how. I understand that fully but we need to up our performances.

I said if we have to take it down to the last game then I am fine with that but I want to see performances improve going into that game and making sure we are ready for the play offs.

 

Ya I get that and if we did get to league one we would hope it would be a new era and all that we fans want would come to fruition.
I'm awaiting the quote " we couldnt survive in league one and we'd come straight down" Im more than happy to put that situation to the test .

 

What a match that would be at at Morecombe, a winner takes all situation.

 

By the same token Salford could only draw with Grimsby, we beat them!

 

And that is the issue .Our more direct ,enegetic and creative midfielders are missing from the squad and even ones that might not be starters Pritchard and Ismael have hardly kicked a ball all season. That is what is dictating the current style, the lack of quality and depth in midfield. Evans, clarke , AC are just about adequate individually , but not as a complete midfield . Kian Scales could be decent , but as yet is too inexperienced . The sooner we get Cooke and Sutton back the better. I also see Vernon and Crankshaw as out and out wingers, rather than central midfielders.

 

For all my criticism, just to be clear, I don't think we're far off.

We under invested in central/passing midfielders in January. Let's give T&S some of the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps they thought Cooke and Pritchard could rotate with Watt and Sutton but both got injured unfortunately.

They also thought that playing Vernham and Crankshaw on the side of the attacking three with Cook/Rowe would give us good attacking options but what happened was we became less solid/defensively sure and started losing so they went the other way and moved to a more solid three.

Both of those things will be fixed in the summer window I think and we'll have better options.

They're still learning and I don't mind that. Against Stevenage there is an argument that the team started so poorly (not sure that's totally down to the managers) but we pulled back and went attacking to try and win it and therefore it wasn't a bad result. I was just disappointed yesterday that they hadn't learned from that performance and got more pace into the team but I hope they'll continue to learn and improve the team and squad generally.

 

I thought the pitch looked quite good.

Spoken like a true City fan. If we hit the play-offs I will be more than happy with a performance and result like that in the last two games.

 

Reaching the playoffs , from the position we were in , would be a fantastic achievement. I would take another 10 scrappy 1-0 wins to achieve it. We were really good at Newport and got nothing. You can play like world beaters and still lose. Man city yesterday is a perfect example.
Lets get there first and then use the summer transfer window to address the shortcummings.

 

I wonder how well the sides near the top played when they drew with Grimsby.
Going down to 10 men isn't the big deal that it used to be. A lot of sides in this league play four at the back, if they get someone sent off they generally switch to three at the back and defend from the front and generally up their game.
We can play better than that, even with that starting line up. Let's see where we are after the up coming weekend with hopefully Cooke and Sutton near fitness.

 

They went 8 unbeaten before yesterday. Not that poor!

 

They got 10 points from those 8 games I think most would think we were poor if we had similar results, better to win one and draw one than draw two.

 

True! But still they do need credit where its due, in that run they played Cheltenham, Tranmere and Carlisle!
I will say though didnt realise it was W:1 D:7 haha!
