When the trial was happening I thought it was strange that the defence hardly put a case at all. Think they did less than half a day with only one witness, if that. That said to me that they didn’t think the evidence was very strong. Emotional yes but actually lacking evidence to point the finger at him.

He was in charge on the day inexperienced or not, he took the coin so he should be responsible no scapegoat at all, there are 96 families who lost loved ones and no one is accountable ?.

Yes he is directly responsible as he admitted at the inquest. However he was an inexperienced officer on crowd control the ultimate people responsible are his immediate superiors for appointing him

Liverpool fans acted like any other fans at that time in football there were minor crushes all the time I experienced a few myself were they drink filled ? Probably many were but police were put in charge to protect them and whilst Duckinfield was inept in doing that in my opinion it was higher up to blame and it should have been a case of corporate manslaughter

Sorry can't agree, yes others made the decision to promote him to Commander 19 days previously but he must have been involved with crowd control previously, when does his responsibility start 2 months, 12 months 24 months after his promotion, they obviously thought he was a capable man to give him the position.

They were complacent for a high profile match considerable experience is needed. He didn’t have it

It’s easy to say that now with what we know but they were just rushing in to get to see the match and they took the direct route let open for them

Then until he'd proved he could cope with large football crowds they shouldn't have given him the job.
Example when I had my prostrate surgery my consultant who operated on me had to have a mentor at his side during the operation just in case anything went wrong, once he had done x amount of operations then he would be allowed to do operations by himself.

One of the reasons they opened the gate was because fans where climbing the walls into the ground so the fans without tickets saw what others were doing resulting in a crush at the turnstiles. So they took the decision to open the gate basically being a free for all with or without tickets.

I didn't say he caused it but he was responsible for the policing that day and he failed to control the situation and because of his lack of experience 96 lives were lost.

The jury didn't agree with you, and they saw the best evidence that the prosecution put forward

All 3 of those things happened, they're fact not lies.

Whether they played enough of a part to apportion blame though is a completely different debate.

he did get fined but the judge also acknowledged that his crime had in no way caused the tragedy.

Judge Openshaw said Mackrell’s offence did not directly cause the disaster inside the ground.

He said: “The defendant’s offence was at least one of the direct causes of the crush at the turnstiles outside the ground but it was not a direct cause of the crush on the terraces inside the ground that resulted in the deaths of 96 spectators and injury to many more, to which the crush outside the ground did no more than set the scene.”

Not really a technicality is it if they haven’t breached any law of the land. The inquiry was set up quickly so wasn’t a full inquiry with legal standing.

The biggest query should be on the current CPS for dragging it out if no evidence of an actual crime had been committed. I suppose they would have been crucified if they had dropped the case so they carried on just to keep face and can blame the judge, what a waste of money
