Just seen that charges have been dropped against one of the top police officers involved in the Hillsborough tragedy.

Probably the first to be dropped as the cases get closer and closer

I don’t he was even there at the match he was accused of being involved in the cover up.
They will throw the book at the match commander

Looks like the jury were unable to agree on a verdict regarding the match commander. To be honest I’m
Surprised they didn’t find him not guilty.

CPS have indicated they will go for a retrial, so another 10 week trial here we come

The cover up by the police was a crime against society and should have been more investigated and given much more importance,

When the trial was happening I thought it was strange that the defence hardly put a case at all. Think they did less than half a day with only one witness, if that. That said to me that they didn’t think the evidence was very strong. Emotional yes but actually lacking evidence to point the finger at him.

Dukinfield is the scapegoat for a massive balls up he was far to inexperienced for such a big match

He was in charge on the day inexperienced or not, he took the coin so he should be responsible no scapegoat at all, there are 96 families who lost loved ones and no one is accountable ?.

Yes he is directly responsible as he admitted at the inquest. However he was an inexperienced officer on crowd control the ultimate people responsible are his immediate superiors for appointing him

What about the Liverpool fans themselves? Should they partly shoulder the blame?

Liverpool fans acted like any other fans at that time in football there were minor crushes all the time I experienced a few myself were they drink filled ? Probably many were but police were put in charge to protect them and whilst Duckinfield was inept in doing that in my opinion it was higher up to blame and it should have been a case of corporate manslaughter

So the defence is "everyone acted that way" and a fair few were "drunk" ?

I don't know enough about events on the day to suggest who is or is not responsible, that's what the inquest was for but I do know that if I was one of the 2000 Liverpool fans who rushed through the exit gate I'd probably feel a sense of self guilt at my behaviour.

Sorry can't agree, yes others made the decision to promote him to Commander 19 days previously but he must have been involved with crowd control previously, when does his responsibility start 2 months, 12 months 24 months after his promotion, they obviously thought he was a capable man to give him the position.

They were complacent for a high profile match considerable experience is needed. He didn’t have it

It’s easy to say that now with what we know but they were just rushing in to get to see the match and they took the direct route let open for them

Then until he'd proved he could cope with large football crowds they shouldn't have given him the job.
Example when I had my prostrate surgery my consultant who operated on me had to have a mentor at his side during the operation just in case anything went wrong, once he had done x amount of operations then he would be allowed to do operations by himself.
