Extremely good signing for League 2. One of my favourite players to wear the Salop shirt in recent years. I don’t know what happened to him at Burton last season, but he was phenomenal for us!! The majority of our fanbase wanted us to re-sign him this summer but he had a big falling out with Steve Cotterill towards the end of his loan spell with us so unfortunately he was never going to return.

Definitely got your hands on an exciting player. Given the chance, he won’t hesitate to run at defenders and he’ll shoot on sight at any given opportunity which can be frustrating at times, but is fairly accurate and scored a couple of screamers for us (notable one away at Swindon). You’ll love him up at Valley Parade. HMS Bradford full sail ahead?

 

Did an opposition scouting report on Burton last season. Only seen him once but my snippet is below for what it’s worth:


The most creative player for Burton and the one looking to make things happen.
Chapman is right footed and played as the most advanced midfielder in the first half, often up alongside Jebbison. He played wide (both sides) second half and looked much more effective, particularly on the left. Here he would run at players with the ball and cut inside, looking to shoot with his right foot. Very busy off the ball and leads the press for Burton, not allowing opposition players time on the ball.

 

They all seem to be saying they're exciting and that's nice and all that but we also need a grumpy, miserable bugger in the middle of the pitch to kick lumps out of the other team!!

 

Not concerned at all with any comments from Shrewsbury fans saying needs legs around him, seen him many times for Rovers during their L1 promotion season I think it was and he was always eye catching getting fans off their seats. Always looking to take his man on confidently and was very good at it and looking to cut inside getting shots away. Had a couple of injuries which set him back a bit as Rovers progressed to the Championship and never managed to fully cement a place in the side after. Looks to be over them set backs now though. My many Rovers friends over here otherside of the hills can't believe we've landed him. As regards to being CVs replacement we've definitely done well, ability wise on the ball Chapman is very similar and easily as good, but where he edges clearly it is his final ball/decision making.

 

Over the last few years, we have accumulated a reputation for having a team that isn’t the most mobile. However, the signs from pre season indicate that this wont be the case this time round. The majority of our players are under the age of 25 an aren’t known for being slow. You have the likes of East, Young, Harratt who have been signed. Then you have existing squad players such as Sutton an Gillead who’s main attributes include a high intensive playing style. You have the Likes of Angol an Songo’o who are team players an allow those around them to thrive. Based on that, I think Chapman will thrive here. In essence, it looks like the team Hughes is building is capable of doing the leg work an allowing the likes of Chapman an Walker to do what they do best when they get on the ball

As for Shrewsbury. Yes they have a smaller ground than us an their attendances are a lot lower than ours. Does that make the opinions of their fans irrelevant? I don’t think so. They’ve been plying their trade in the Third tier of English football for the last few years. We haven’t. Shrewsbury fans have had a first hand picture at watching Chapman go up against defenders of a higher quality than the ones we have come across in League Two. I think its a very good signing for us an that Chapman is more than an adequate replacement to Vernam

 

A great signing and a more experienced and refined winger. Speaking to a Blackburn fan he said he’s a quality winger and should tear up second devision football.

 

Seen a lot of this lad for Rovers and I'd say he's definitely better than Vernam, great signing.

 

Above L2 level, he's made nearly three times the appearances that Vernham has.

Indeed he's made more first team starts in The Championship than Vernham did in L1.

Just stating this to give you some perspective - not to berate Vernham

 

Very good signing and exactly the calibre of player needed to replace Vernam. Hopefully a few more on this level to follow.

 

He might not of wanted to sign and extension clause, they don’t really work in the players favour if the clause is in the clubs favour. If he had other options then we wouldn’t have much choice.

 

From talking to someone who knows him fairly well. He says he a very skilful player, a bit different in style to Vernam but a good asset to have in the side. Hopefully we get the best out of him.

 

Another sub 25 year old……He’s certainly going for youth!

Just need Smallwood or similar to knit the on field squad together!

 

You could argue the same for Vernam. Plenty of games where he went missing for large parts.

 

Happy with this. Plenty of experience in higher leagues.

Love the confidence from the player self claiming he is an exciting player and wants to get fans off their seats

Watching a few of the videos he's re-tweeted on his twitter account he is very similar to Vernam in that he looks very direct, likes to run and take on people and attacks the goal rather than the byline. Looks promising.

 

Watching the few clips posted on here he definitely seems to be a direct replacement for CV. Seems the recruitment drive is still on track.

 

Based on what I've read and the few clips I've seen, HC looks a promising signing. Time will tell of course but one I'll be looking forward to seeing perform in the claret and amber.
