We were incredibly lucky not to concede in the home game, it seemed like footballing suicide at the time to sit back like we did.

We also clearly didn't learn that lesson in time for the second leg.

The playoffs are do or die. Forget the fact you got there, that apparent achievement has been and gone, it's now a three game shoot out for the last spot. To not go all for it should and was classed as a complete failure.

Yes, i guess he’s working under them, not alongside them. But did think he might have been culled this time tbh.

He still might I suppose. I've not really got an opinion either way though and if he stays at least it's one person we don't have to pay off.

The more interesting comment is from Flynn who says that he and Sparks negotiated the loan arrangement. It suggests to me that it isn't a simple case of giving the manager, Hughes in this case, a playing budget and letting him get on with it. It appears that there is more to it than that simplistic outlook.

If the CEO of Bradford City can't oversee an operation that gets into League One at least, then he is failing at his job. The CEO can't turnaround and shrug his shoulders mumbling about delegation when he is ultimately accountable.

Ultimately, if a business ends up with a workforce that is not delivering and losing ground to competitors over time, then the senior leadership has to be accountable.

I'm not suggesting that Ryan Sparks is responsible for day-to-day football decisions. However, challenging the football side to make sure that money is well spent absolutely is. I don't think Ryan Sparks has got to grips with this, hence a large squad again that appears short on quality.

So in your opinion, and tell me if I'm wrong, Sparks has given Alexander the best possible chance for a start to life a City?

His knowledge of football has allowed him to form continuity plans that have ensured Graham has the players he needs - just like Mike Williamson at MK - to hit the ground running. They will be alive to his tactics and formation, because this is why those players were brought to the club.

Heck, skip the January window. Sparks' elite management of the football aspect of the game (that he can control) is second to none. Graham is gonna slot right in there and we won't even notice much of a change.

Well done all involved. The promotion push starts now.

Yes that is interesting. Do we read much into it, or was this how Hughes wanted it?

It’s crazy how some on here don’t seem to know or care about accountability, the footballing decisions he’s made have harmed us since his arrival there are no if, buts or maybes about it. Although not as much as Rupp obviously, who’s equally defended by the same culprits.

Interesting the article that Jon has put up which dispels another myth that Sparks has nothing to do with recruitment, he was literally involved in the Young loan.

Tbf it’s how it should be. Not how we have it, but someone above the manager involved in the footballing contracts so things don’t get out of hand, ideally it would be someone with some footballing knowledge like but we are where we are.

It may be that's the way Hughes wanted it. However, it's closer to the way DB once described it when he said that either he or JR were involved in most contractual issues with new players when Parky was the manager. It wasn't a case of letting the manager get on with it; there was some oversight from others.

“Now, unless they’re going to go back and play at their clubs or somebody puts in a ridiculous offer for one of them that the other club can’t turn down, I’d like to think – in good faith – that they’ll be here for the duration of the season.”

I don't read we have to pay a fee if we want him back and want to play Jake, sort of a give away with the highlighted, quoting " I’ve got a good relationship with Ryan Sparks at Bradford City" sofar Ryan has had praise for some on the deals manly with the kids but if we have to pay a fee to bring Jake back that's pretty doubt.

He hasn’t given him continuity plans because the manager before him failed it’s up to him to use his knowledge and experience to turn that round and when the next manager comes in then continuity will be important. There is absolutely no point in continuing with a failed style or methods

hughes told him to move on didn’t he? After JY allegedly told him he ‘didn’t know what he was doing’ on the training ground (no idea if rumour was BS or not)?

If true, no wonder Hughes washed his hands of him and delegated moving him on to Sparks.

It won't dispel the myth for some Wilsden, they refuse to believe it, even when it comes straight from the horse's mouth.
