I recall a certain Peter Thorne wasn't blessed with pace or even Ron Futcher but they bagged goals with the right service to them. So I think Donaldinho and Novak could do well with good balls into the box.

    Similarly with Vaughan.

I haven't seen enough of Guthrie but SM has. So maybe the fact he wasn't even getting on the bench says it all.

And Clarke is not a striker/forward line player. With a decent centre midfield behind him I can see him creating chances for us.

I defended what Donaldson brings to the team last seaaon but finishing doesn't seem to be a strong point. Feels like he missed a few very easy chances last season...

The game has change since Ron Fulcher days. It's about speed now and our forward line up is slow.

Let's talk about right service - Yes service is important. We have Wood that can provide a decent ball and I suppose Harry can on his day. That's it.

Creating decent chances from Clarke...I don't get that. I have never really seen him play a decent through ball our cross from the wing. He links up but he done..out of 1400 free players on the market. He is the best we could get? Nah it's a poor signing for me but lets see.

The team/squad is far too slow for my liking.

If your looking for goals from
    Nogoalvak ?
    Donaldontiho ?
    Gutless ?
    Forget it ..
If Vaughan goes we need at least three forwards who have the general geography of where the opposition net is on a football pitch !

He has scored plenty of goals in the past but his biggest asset now is bringing others in making space and holding the ball up he is also decent in the air worth his place in my opinion

No, if you are talking about his Swindon days. Their tactics were simple.

Play on the front foot, counter when can with speed get into the box past to Doyle who will be central in the box to shoot.

Swindon were not a slow team and had a game plan. Not defensive rubbish like boring Bowyer.

So you would be OK with a couple of pacy wingers (DMH as one?) and a mobile midfield? That could still happen.

I thought Guthrie was injured when McCall came back.

As a striker Billy Clarke is a poor signing Fordy, I will agree with you about that. However he isn't a striker and I don't think McCall has signed him as one. And as the other four you mention are all basically No.9s there is likely to be another signing to come in, either on loan from a big club (hopefully), or maybe as a swap for one of our four No.9s.

Pacy full backs, pacy wingers, pacy midfield..

You only have to look back at last season Vaughan and other forwards had to drop deep to get the ball.

    Our squad currently is slow.

    A static will suffice;)
Sorry @Fordy117@Fordy117 , I couldn't resist and I didn't find your original comment even remotely offensive. But as they say these days : "nice dress" is one woman's compliment, one woman's sexual harassment. Anyway, well done to your lot last night, cracking game too.

I don't really know where we stand with our strikers.

Vaughan can definitely do well at this level.
Donaldson is probably past it in terms of being an active goal threat - he's not horrendous, has a ton of experience, but hasn't done it in recent years.
Novak is a solid 'player', but he's not going to be a top scorer.
Clarke is a different type of option to any of those, but again, not going to be a top scorer.
Guthrie looked absolutely woeful, mostly in terms of attitude and application.

Yet the one that looks most likely to leave is probably the best forward of the lot.

That's still not to say Donaldson/Clarke/Novak can't do a job, but if Vaughan is unhappy or leaves, it's an awful risk leaving it to those four.

It puts an immense burden on the midfield to simultaneously score goals, protect the back four, and create with equal measure - which is kind of a big ask when we don't actually have a midfield.

Anyway, whether we're boosted by lines as McCall had predicted or not, there's definitely a good amount of talent that needs injecting into this squad.
