crazy idea here, so please don’t shoot me down.

How about setting up a fund/ membership with a view to buying the club? If businesses see the fans and communities working together, they will come on board.
City is a club for the fans, not the rich and shameless.

Once again it’s just an idea

It’s not a crazy idea. Unfortunately it might be an emergency lifeline in the event of Rahic and Rupp pulling the plug and jumping ship (one can only hope ): one thing is for sure is that if and when they leave — the club will be in dire financial straits because like Richmond of old they will asset strip on a big scale. The main obstacle in such a venture is one of trust. If a “save Bradford City fund” is launched then everyone administering such a fund will have to be fully transparent and have good business acumen. It would be interesting to hear from any other fans who are worried that soon Bradford City could be heading for administration within the next two seasons

Agreed. Definitely worth exploring. Maybe SOC1903 can set something up?

If a fund is started now, then it’s always there if the worst happens. All paid members to have a vote On how funds are used etc

I think any ideas on fan ownership, protest types etc. should be on the SOC thread so they are all together. In my view the initial guys behind SOC should arrange a meeting initially to set up the aims/objectives, website, twitter, facebook etc and then possibly arrange a wider meeting with other fans that are interested to take ideas for protests, fan ownership etc and co-ordinate all the ideas into an organised plan etc. Somebody could then be asked to speak to Pompey Supporters Trust to see how they went about the fan ownership etc...

You buy it and then what? It loses 500k or more a year apparently, so you need to keep continuous funding in mind, you’d have to appoint a CEO and a board. Then what? Every half baked fan who has put £10.53 in shrapnel in thinks their opinion counts and if the CEO disagrees with them wants his money back. I don’t think they would be able to separate their shareholdings from the reality of running a business. We haven’t signed a striker for £1m and £10k a week? Sack the board and give me my money back. Put ten average City fans in a room and ask for an opinion and you’ll get 11 different opinions.

It’s a genuine non starter for me.

Pompey Supporters Trust were a well funded and well organised trust which had bought Pompey along with a small number of wealthy fans a few years ago. They soon realised that the club could keep treading water under their ownership but not much more. There was certainly no interest in putting additional funds in from the fans' pockets to finance a promotion push to get back into the Championship and then to sustain the club there. So what did they do? They sold the entire shareholding to a billionaire who does have deep pockets and committed to put additional funds into the club for the promotion push. Does anybody believe that a large group of City fans without deep pockets could manage it any better?

Still got to pay a CEO to run the club if Edin goes, anyone half decent will want £80k a year or more. Still need a finance manager/accountant and so on. Only difference is the alleged £27k a month going back to Germany.

Saturday’s opponents in the 2016/17 season, their highest paid director got £208k, Scunthorpe a little less, Walsall two directors paid about £200k between them. Whatever you think of Edin, his alleged salary isn’t that out of line with what the industry pays.

Unless we have big backers it'd be a non starter for me. Pompey are a bigger draw and based on the south coast, which is why they were able to sell. We had no real interest the last time we were up for sale until these two turned up. As we've seen with the protest fund, we're struggling to raise £750.00, nevermind £7.5M needed to buy them out and provide a playing budget.

If we can get enough to invest, so we can get a supporter on the board, that might be a more viable option.

Not sure you can compare the fund for a flyover and buying the club. However, even if we raised enough to buy it, we would struggle to keep the funding going. Our ideal buyer is one with deep pockets and prepared to wait for profits and or write injections of cash off. I don’t think we have done too badly raising money for the flyover in a short period of time.
