I agree with your concluding thought, that we will miss out on them. I just don’t think we can keep this run going. I try to be balanced and avoid the extremes of pessimism and optimism, however I think we will falter on Saturday and that sadly we will get beaten at Cheltenham.

Anything above 10th would be an achievement considering how bad we were at the start of the season. I’m not sure we will make the play offs as the shear amount of games to play will take its toll on players and we’re having a purple patch for no injuries. If we don’t make play offs this season I fully expect us to be in the mix for automatic promotion next season. The excellent work done in January has put us in a good position for next season regardless of where we are.

We're unlikely to maintain this form, and like it or not it dipped with a single illness (Rowe).

8th to 12th does seem likely, and even that requires good form.

Don't blame you, I can get Foster's here, brewed in Texas, tastes like crap. Anyway, figured there must be a Meltham in Oz.

We only have the odd game in hand over most teams so we're all in the same boat regards Tues/Sat games. But your point re injuries is a valid one.

All teams are not in the same position. Every team in the top half of our division (other than Carlisle) has played more games than us and already has the points in the bag. In a congested schedule having even a week without playing 2 games is an advantage others have which we don't. That may well have an adverse impact on our final position.

ps Look at the league table on BBC, say, for the true position and not the one on BT which has yet to catch up with some postponed games.

We are hard. We could play Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and it wouldn't be a disadvantage

True. Your argument would hold more sway if say 10 games left, but with teams having to play so many games in a short period I think our squad will prove more important. I did vote 8-13 though as we wouldn't be able to have any bad patches

Can we still make the playoffs? How many points do you think we need to get to? 80?

2.3 pts per game would be needed to get 80 points, but guess less than this will probably do

68-75 points in the last decade or so, 40 more points from the next 20 games should guarantee the play offs. 12 wins, 4 draws and 4 defeats.
Today’s game at Cheltenham will show where we are, away at the team third in the league. Win or a good draw in this will show we’re contenders.

In this league where it goes down to 7th then it has been as low as 68. I think the average for 7th is about 71/72

Next five games are crucial. If we can get to 31 games and have 45 points, with another 45 to play for it becomes doable.

Most certainly, I think it is something we can do but it will be a real challenge. For once its something that I can see the club and players being prepared and confident enough to aim for.

If we do make the play offs then this has to be one of the craziest seasons I can recall.

Going from second bottom, getting beaten with ease, staring down into the NL, looking like e right basket case and then next thing we are on automatic promotion form looking like we could win every game home or away. Bizarre

Although our upturn in form has come a bit later in the season, it reminds me of Sheffield Utd's promotion from League 1 a few years ago. They too were struggling in the early part of the season - might have even occupied a relegation spot for a short while - only to suddenly hit a rich vein of form which rocketed them up the league and concluded with promotion.

Fingers crossed our season has the same happy ending. That would truly be amazing. Even better would be to emulate the momentum Sheffield Utd gained from that and secure another promotion not long after! OK, my heads in the clouds but heck I'm affording myself the luxury to dream!

If Cambridge lose Mullin to injury? etc. Who would be our must not lose to injury player? I can only really think of Woods as not seen Faulds play, but is a left back as big a loss? Watt or Sutton I'd say. There's a reasonable chance either will be suspended this season
