I don't see why football should not restart with crowds but some advisories and restrictions, if you look at the data. Click on Pre Existing Conditions here:

    http://covidtracker.uksouth.cloudapp.azure.com/

Deaths of healthy people and compromised by age group in English hospitals:

    0-19 years Healthy 3 Compromised 11
    20-39 years Healthy 32 Compromised 150
    40-59 years Healthy 239 Compromised 1758
    60-79 years Healthy 550 Compromised 9116
    80+ years Healthy 460 Compromised 12764

Only 1284 victims of all ages (about 5%) were drawn from the previously healthy (and some of those might well have been compromised but not yet sought medical help). For comparison, in England, about 5000 people die from accidents in the home each year and about 5000 from suicides. These two figures will be signficantly higher in lockdown - possibly much higher. Healthy people - especially young healthy people - could exceed the risk of dying from Covid-19 with other things if they just stay at home! About 6000 men die in England each year aged 20-39 from all causes yet Covid-19 has taken only 32 healthy people of both sexes in that age group .Add in compromised and it's still only 182 people of both sexes aged 20-39. Media and politicans are ignoring relative risks. They are still failing to put risk of virus and lockdown into perspective.

We should be able to sort something out to get football fans back at games because the virus has shown little sign of being more dangerous than the usual hazards for healthy people - even old healthy people. Healthy under 60s should not be a problem. Healthy over 60s risk does not look very high when you consider excess winter deaths from respiratory diseases in the UK can be between 10,000 in a good year and 50,000 in a bad year. The big risk is for those with pre-existing conditions over 40 that make up about 93% of victims.

Football grounds with restrictions could be reopened to healthy fans under 60 at their own risk (maybe under 55). Healthy fans over 60(55) could be advised that attendance is not recommended and they do so at their own risk. Both healthy groups should be advised not to attend if they have regular contact with anyone shielding. Anyone in an at risk group/shielding should be advised they will be refused entry. All should be advised not to attend if they feel unwell or have done within the last two weeks. This might seem dramatic after all the media spin to back up the lockdown but the numbers suggest the risk to healthy people is relatively modest - and it is falling as infection rates fall in the community.

Healthy people are more at risk at home if and until community rates of infection rates rise significantly again - but nobody is telling the healthy to avoid staying at home because they are not assessing THAT risk! Tunnel vision rules. The healthy look safer doing normal stuff until infection rates rise again and that will not happen overnight. Measures will be taken to avoid it and then head it off if it starts. There will inevitably be some restrictions to get into football lgrounds - perhaps masks, spacing, sanitisers, temperature checks, track and trace, whatever - these will ease or tighten over time and will be more to protect the compromised from general population spread than to protect the healthy that attend games. This is where things will end up. The statistics say we might as well start now. We can't hide forever. We don't know a vaccine will come. Proceed with caution is the order of the day. Most healthy and some compromised are probably in more danger staying at home. Now can we knock some perspective and common sense into those in charge? They need to stop looking at just one set of statistics.

I’m 72, & I’ve had COVID-19 In March. I’ve had the latest antibodies test and been certified as positive so should I be barred because I’m over 70?

Yes, 100%! No one is sure if anyone who has had covid 19 is immune from getting it again. Until that's proven then no you shouldn't be allowed in to start with.

When we get closer to a vaccine or finding if having covid 19 once makes you immune then fine welcome back.

    which antibodies test?

as no immunity has been shown after a few weeks if they bar over 70s then yes. But it is a big if as I don’t think they will

Well I do because I don't know how long the antibodies last for.

Maybe, we should use you as a covid 19 Bantam Talk Guinea Pig. You can expose yourself, see if you catch it again and if so how long it takes but you won't be allowed in to VP exposed.

Clearly Fordy thinks he’s in control.
However I’m very keen to find out just what my new status means. The Chinese have had the virus for 6 Months + so there must be some info on reinfection. I’m digging around for it.

There must be a lot of footballers who have anti bodies in their system but I don’t see any reports of that yet.
I will tell Fordy If I get reinfected.

I guess you must have been asymptomatic or thankfully had only a mild variant of the condition. Are you in West Yorkshire, or further afield?

Apparently the most recent theory for men is the longer your ring finger the less likely you are to suffer complications from CV19.

So rather than age they should measure your ring finger, if it is too small then you are not allowed in.

I am just trying to work out the logic of this.

If you are over 6’3”, then you should, by the law of averages have a ‘longer’ finger.

If you are say 5’9” - 6’2” then a medium length finger.

If you are under 5’8” then on average a smaller finger.

If you are someone of restricted growth ( midget ) or someone who associates with them, then an indefinite ban?

These views are a hypothetical projection and do not represent the position of the author. ;)

Although it smacks a little of 'sizeism', it's a very sensible suggestion in my book. And we both know that a ban from VP leads to an automatic permanent and indefinite ban on here. Result! :)
