    The stats tell a really bad effort from Eng;
    34% possession
    6 attempts
    2 on target

    Italy managed 19 attempts
    6 on target

Did well to get to penalties but can have no complaints at being losers.

As a man manager he is superb. As a coach, no I don't rate him.

I agree club football and international football management is chalk and cheese, you have to make the most of the talent you have there and then because you might not get another chance. Italy didn’t even qualify for the last World Cup, when France were champions in 98 they got knocked out to Senegal in the group stages in 02. It can change instantly. Teams like Spain and Italy have managers who’ve managed the best clubs in Europe and won competitions. We have someone who has managed one club and was sacked and got them relegated. If managing the under 21’s is such a feather in the cap maybe we can give Aidy Boothroyd a go next.

And in American Football the special teams aren't just sitting there, doing the occasional jog down the line for when they are needed. They are off on the vast sidelines running intensive drills so if they need to come on and kick a field goal or run a special play they are both physically and mentally ready. In Football you don't have that, Rashford and Sancho can't be on the side running drills preparing them to come on simply to take a penalty in a shootout. Perhaps the only position you can maybe 'special team' in Football is the keeper, keepers have very little pressure on them, they are expected to not save them and there are drills you can do on the sideline as a keeper to prepare you that might in some cases be better than being the keeper on the pitch who isn't getting anything to do. And most importantly you can have them spend 29 minutes just looking over each potential takers penalty preferences to give them that edge of guessing the right way

This is the best England squad for many a year and as previous times could be ruined and wasted by poor team management.that changes the team depending on the opposition which smarts of lack of confidence in the players and yourself playing with some fear, Counter this against an Italian team that has kept its style and formation confident on its ability to win or at least not lose for now 34 games

Its easy to say it will but I am not convinced and certainly not under Southgate. France will improve as will Spain and Germany. Belgium might have another two years of their golden generation left.

It’s easy to forget we played all but one game at home and was on the easy side of the draw.

Yesterdays game required an all out attack approach but he’s far too defensive as a manager. You need to start with Henderson. Why Mount started I don’t know. No need for 5 at the back.

During the game we should have dragged Kane off who was doing nothing after the 1st half brought Rashford on.

Last night was fully on Southgate. The penalty situation was a joke.

Wouldn't have needed to be all out attack, just a touch more dynamic, and minded towards exposing their lack of pace at the back.

I think Captain Kane would have had some input at some point whether Southgate took any notice is another point
In my opinion Grealish Henderson and Shaw would have been the part of the first five but strangely enough Maguire who took the best penalty of the night wouldn't it's all about the opinions
Hopefully we will give the likes of Sakha Sancho Grealish and Calvert Lewin more responsibility at the world cup
Certainly more than adequate in their positions

He certainly can't be accused of buckling under pressure on Sunday night with his 2 penalty saves, if the outfield players had done their job the trophy would have been coming home.

Especially as he didn’t seem to adapt based on the situation. There is a big difference between penalties in training and penalties in a match. Anyone paying attention can see the situation was getting the better of Saka when he came on and Southgate should have seen that and judged it based on not just who is technically good at penalties but who was in the right mind

I have watched a bit of football in my lifetime my friend even though the majority has been watching Bradford City.
I've not seen a keeper yet who hasn't dropped a b*****k even the lad Gary Sprake Wales number 1 for many years was prone to the odd error like throwing the ball into his own net at the Liverpool kop end.
Not sure about your claim Everton were looking to replace him, England number one, they don't come much better, good World Cup, good Euro's conceded 2 goals in thd run up to thd final, highest transfer fee paid for a keeper and it would be broken again if Everton sold.
Sorry I stand by my comment Pickford did his job unfortunatly the outfield players didn't.

    Forza Bianca!

England have never beaten Italy in a tournament apparently and recently Italy have been a bit of a bogey team for us.
Might as well hand the trophy over to them now ;)

Except this current England squad are doing their own thing, very inclusive
    and doing it rather well.

We have rarely played them in a tournament and due to the way qualifications work we rarely come up against them in qualifying.

Our last few games in a competitive environment were under Hodgson. We lost in the world cup where we were totally dire and went out on pens when Hodgson stuck everyone behind the ball for 120min.

Beyond that we are looking at 20+ years with the 0-0 draw which is a line in Three Lions 98 (and then one night in Rome, we had grown)

Current form from both teams since 2018 is very good and this is an Italian side that didn't even qualify for the last World Cup to find themselves in a major final.

This really could go either way, let's hope home advantage swings it.

I have a feeling he will find a role for Jordan Henderson in his team because of his leadership
