Anyway I've switched it back on here to default. If anyone still wants to use it then you can set it as default in the dropdown.

Southgate has run the tournament his way, we looked solid throughout and rarely overrun.

In the final we were found out, maybe the early goal threw us and we came out second half with the intention of holding onto the 1-0, that tactic is fine if you win but should you conceded it is very hard to turn it back on.

Looking at the tournament as a whole, if someone had told me we would be runners up I would have taken it before a ball was kicked.

This Italian side has not lost in 34, has beaten Spain and Belgium on the way to the final and have played in about 7 tournament finals since we last played in one.

England will emerge stronger from this.

Southgate has a World Cup semi final, a Nations Cup 3rd place and a Euros runners up off the back of a decade of dross, including none qualifications of a tournament, barely scraping past the group stage in 3 tournaments and not making it out the group in another.

I certainly see the glass as half full rather than half empty.

One big thing we should learn from this is that we are obviously very solid defensively but we have some world class attackers, if Southgate had just found some balls and put grealish and sancho on, those old Italian defenders would have been flapping. It’s a case of hindsight of course but I think most of the country was screaming get grealish on!

Being a city fan I’m used to managers not doing what everyone else thinks is right!

Southgate cost us the final, 3 at the back (5 really) Meant we went in to the game with 8 defensive players and always on the back foot against an Italian side renowned for its passing, We had the better players but they had the better manager he must have thought all his dreams had come true when he saw Englands team sheet and formation, Even on penalties while italy used their most experienced players to take them while we chose to use youngsters against one of the best keepers in the world, It is an old saying but relevant here that it was lions led by a frightened defensive minded donkey,
Southgate says to blame him not the team, At least he got that right

You post as if losing final and not getting over the line has been the issue in the last 50 years.

The booing once again of the Italian national anthem and now the racist abuse of the three lads who missed the penalties. Makes me sick in the stomach

This is the best England squad for many a year and as previous times could be ruined and wasted by poor team management.that changes the team depending on the opposition which smarts of lack of confidence in the players and yourself playing with some fear, Counter this against an Italian team that has kept its style and formation confident on its ability to win or at least not lose for now 34 games

    The racist abuse is disgraceful.

As for the game itself, we got what we deserved. We were poor, and much of it lies with Southgate. We were far too cautious, we never got at their centre halves. He got his system, tactics, lineup, subs and penalty takers wrong.

It is stupidity BUT with your own eyes you can see the crowd is getting more diverse and inclusive whether at the stadium or in pubs/public spaces and that is something that this current squad and manager has help foster.
The morons need to be laughed at but alas they will always be there beered up.

One thing about national footy tournaments- Italy,France,Spain,Germany all have their poor efforts but they all manage to win once in a while.
England on the other hand dont.
In the own backyard, with the easier draw they go ultra defensive, leave the creative midfielders on the bench and play Sterling and Kane in our own half as cover.
Net result from those two was no shots on target.
Did well to get it to penalties.
    Again.

Its easy to say it will but I am not convinced and certainly not under Southgate. France will improve as will Spain and Germany. Belgium might have another two years of their golden generation left.

It’s easy to forget we played all but one game at home and was on the easy side of the draw.

Yesterdays game required an all out attack approach but he’s far too defensive as a manager. You need to start with Henderson. Why Mount started I don’t know. No need for 5 at the back.

During the game we should have dragged Kane off who was doing nothing after the 1st half brought Rashford on.

Last night was fully on Southgate. The penalty situation was a joke.

I agree with the summary BUT there is a way forward for Southgate with this team.

It's like when any new manager goes into a struggling team. He's built a solid foundation, proved that we can keep clean sheets so now the challenge is to find a way to get more creativity and goals into the set up without compromising on the solidity.

If he can find the balance then we've some exciting times ahead. If he can't, he's not lasting much beyond next seasons world cup.

It is all about winning and a winning mentality, Mancini as a manager has won cups and leagues titles in abundance because he sets out and knows how to win, Southgate however despite a career in football has won nothing, And on his obvious fear of the opposition I doubt he ever will

Henderson was terrible when he came on. Rice was having a blinder - the only one with any determination to carry the ball forward. We lost any remaining midfield dynamism when he went off.
Rashford looks a pale shadow of his fully fit self and has done nothing recent to suggest he would have made a significant difference.
Mistakes were definitely made last night, and bringing on Hendo and Rashford were two of them.

Actually think bringing on Henderson was the right move but agree he was awful. And he shouldn't have come on for Rice who was by far our best player at that point.

We'll never win anything with Southgate. Hes a very limited manager. He's had us playing with the handbrake on all tournament. To set us up that defensively in a final at our own national stadium got the result it deserved.

Mate he has the two best attack full backs in the PL at RB and LB who have both won the CL in Trent and Chilwell and he doesn’t rate them.

He has Henderson who has won everything and a natural leader but didn’t find to start him.

He has Rashford who plays weekly for Utd.

It was all there. Now until he can understand a top manger plays a formation sticks with it and believe we can attack any team he will struggle because teams like Spain and Italy have always been better on the ball than us.

Henderson should have started! 100% massive mistake not starting him.
