I don't care if they're Chinese either, really, but the fact that Southgate has been infinitely more successful than a procession of top foreign managers, and the fact that all the strong nations have home grown management, tells me we're a bit naive in this country trying to outsource everything.

Southgate was never a successful manager at domestic level. We don't need a guy coming in who has won six different European leagues and a Europa League trophy but has never met a single England international, we need someone to carry on Southgate's work.

It seems to me to be less likely that we'll get that from the endless carousel of no name managers, most of who come to the Premier League and fail.

Well, I get to see this one. Did manage to get through last Sunday’s dance recital and shopping at Sams and get home just in time to watch the rerun without hearing the score . Got to say, every game this week was being watched by a few kids in my classes. They got their work done so no problem.

I was pleased with the England performance overall. I would have had Grealish on for Foden at the 60 minute mark. I assume Saka picked up a knock from the treatment given him, mainly by Upemecano, and that was why he went off. Aside from awarding the first penalty the ref gave Saka no protection at all.
Southgate needs to keep club managers on side, so won't have risked further injury to Saka.

 

I do get your point, but it was the quarter final of the world cup. If the England manager is taking our best player off because he is worried about keeping club managers happy, then something is sadly wrong.
