Is it just me, or are we the only major nation that constantly covets foreign managers?

If Gareth does go, I want to see exclusively British managers, each building on the work of their predecessors.

I believe only Brazil, Germany and Italy have not employed a foreign manager of the major nations. So many seemingly do so

    You mean currently, or ever?

Because that's definitely not the complete list of nations employing their countrymen.

I'm very anti Southgate but we played pretty well against France. Certainly the better side, even with that joker of a referee and we deserved to win the game.

However, once again his substitutions when going behind were poor, predictable and made us worse. Mount is useless (yes I know he won the penalty) and Sterling probably wasn't in the best frame of mind, notwithstanding his form has been poor for a while anyway. A competent manager leaves them both on the bench.

Meanwhile you've got James Maddison on the bench who doesn't get a single minute and Grealish who only gets injury time.

This tournament has generally been an improvement in terms of our approach to games as we haven't been as negative as previous tournaments but it's ended in failure one again. And once again to the first elite side we play in the competition.

Hopefully Southgate decides to leave. He hasn't got it in him to win the big games against better tacticians who continually outsmart him. I would have Tuchel or Pochettino who have been touted in the media as being interested but I'd be amazed if the FA went foreign.

When France wanted to get on top, they did. At 1-0, they sat off and although we had plenty of the ball, did we create much? At 1-1, I think we could have been bolder and made substitutions to really go after France. That's one of my biggest criticisms of Southgate - he doesn't affect games through smart use of substitutions and tactical changes. And with 5 subs now available, its a more important feature of a managers role than ever before.

Why on earth? I want to see someone who coaches us to a major tournament win or two. Don't care if they are Chinese or straight in from Jupiter if they can manage that.

I don't care if they're Chinese either, really, but the fact that Southgate has been infinitely more successful than a procession of top foreign managers, and the fact that all the strong nations have home grown management, tells me we're a bit naive in this country trying to outsource everything.

Southgate was never a successful manager at domestic level. We don't need a guy coming in who has won six different European leagues and a Europa League trophy but has never met a single England international, we need someone to carry on Southgate's work.

It seems to me to be less likely that we'll get that from the endless carousel of no name managers, most of who come to the Premier League and fail.

I think the decision to leave will be Southgate’s call. He hasn’t done a bad job and the way he’s built the team spirit has been fantastic. That said, have we really surpassed expectations in any tournament? We just lost to the first decent side we’ve faced in Qatar.

what worries me is that if Southgate leaves, Mourinho and Tuchel have been mentioned as possible replacements. What’s the point in going for another defensive manager?

The whole reason fans want Southgate out is his negative approach.

i respect both, but if they are the leading alternatives I’d rather Southgate leads us into the Euros.

Thought this was going to be some inciteful tactical analysis. Turned out to be turd.

Edited to add - you just have to watch the immigration short linked on the youtube channel to know exactly what this is about.

Personally I do think its time for a change. Yes he has done what others couldn't do and that's unify the squad but the same critiques keep coming back. we have never beaten a good side.

Tuchel is the knockout king - I mean look at the champions league final.

with the England should have English managers nonsense, its a bit shocking I need to remind everyone that Sarina Wiegman brought it home, where southgate could not.

Southgate is shiete. It takes real incompetence to take a group of some of the world's best players and win feck all. We will never actually win anything while he is manager and remain a nearly team

Morocco are doing more against France this first half than England did in 90mins.

Sorry sunshiiine, I don't really know what you mean as regards to this "immigration short link" comment, my fault entirely of course..

I do swear... Sorry I promise, that swearing at folk in response to inciteful opinion usually knocks me off kilter.

    Go get your booster

And until you can have reasoned debate... Please stop bothering me yeh?

I cant believe the decision on whether he stays is his,he should have been sacked after the Italy game due to his incompetence,he wouldnt know how to use a sub if his life depended on it,and to let Kane take 2 pens against a keeper he practices against and has seen every pen hes taken in the prem is unbelievable

To be fair on Southgate the penalty wasn’t his fault, it was Kane being brain dead. Keepers almost always dive so Loris has two options, dive the same way he did for the first or go the way Kane did on the first. He certainly isn’t just going to stand there. If Kane had it it central and hard, even if a Loris had got a trailing leg onto it then it’s going in, as it is he went for the same penalty that was in a position where it didn’t need much to miss anyway and tried to hit it harder making it a tougher penalty to get right
