Who should he have come on for? Foden and Saka were dominating their full backs.

Really enjoyable game, I’m not overly bother by international football compared to club so didn’t feel dejected just enjoyed a very good game. I don’t particularly rate Southgate but we’ve come such a long way since the dark days of Roy, although the players are far better.
Feels like a waste as France were without 6 first team regulars and with a chance of playing Morocco in the semis you have to wonder if a better chance will ever come.
England were the far better team second half, but didn’t create enough from open play for me and Giroud could have had a hatrick so it’s a bit ott to say we totally dominated and France got lucky. Football is all about creating and taking chances, poor ref or not France showed why they’re world champions with two fantastic goals. No player really had a bad game and Saka was fantastic. Kane will be 4 years older next World Cup, I do wonder where the next number 9 will come from because at the moment I can’t see someone who’ll replace him.
Hope it’s a France V Argentina final will be a more interesting one for the neutral.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...Bronco and Chris Redfield like this. -
Have FIFA changed the last man rule, because Mount was the last man when one on one with Lloris when Hernandez fouled him from behind red card and penalty I thought ?.

All this achieved by playing football how it should be played, attack attack attack, none of this tactical shite.
I hope they stuff France on Wednesday and then go on to win it, putting us truly to shame.Jayteebee and Tony Wilkinson like this. -

Morocco success has been built on a very impressive defensive unit, not entertaining attacking football.Bronco and Allotment Bantam like this. -

I'm very anti Southgate but we played pretty well against France. Certainly the better side, even with that joker of a referee and we deserved to win the game.
However, once again his substitutions when going behind were poor, predictable and made us worse. Mount is useless (yes I know he won the penalty) and Sterling probably wasn't in the best frame of mind, notwithstanding his form has been poor for a while anyway. A competent manager leaves them both on the bench.
Meanwhile you've got James Maddison on the bench who doesn't get a single minute and Grealish who only gets injury time.
This tournament has generally been an improvement in terms of our approach to games as we haven't been as negative as previous tournaments but it's ended in failure one again. And once again to the first elite side we play in the competition.
Hopefully Southgate decides to leave. He hasn't got it in him to win the big games against better tacticians who continually outsmart him. I would have Tuchel or Pochettino who have been touted in the media as being interested but I'd be amazed if the FA went foreign.Onside and Bantam 760 like this. -
Southgate is shiete. It takes real incompetence to take a group of some of the world's best players and win feck all. We will never actually win anything while he is manager and remain a nearly team

Got nothing from the ref but Southgate read this game wrong imo. Wrong tactics first half, right second half but subs too late to make the difference.

Despite the defeat the future is bright with those young players. They play far better football than the ones that won the World Cup.

For me they played pretty much the same throughout the whole time since France opened the scoring.Interested Bystander likes this. -

Is it just me, or are we the only major nation that constantly covets foreign managers?
If Gareth does go, I want to see exclusively British managers, each building on the work of their predecessors. The Original EB likes this.
