And he cleared up no matter what eh..............he is the most successful manager on the planet, cheque book or not!!! And as for the worst appointment, do you honestly think he would do no better than Southgate?

    Laughable comment.

I didn't say it was just about chequebook, I said it was about him not being restricted on the pool of players he can recruit from to match the attributes needed for each role and then being able have the time to drill them into exact players he needs. In international football the pool of players is limited, if you don't have a player of a high enough standard who has the attributes needed for the way he wants to play them then he can't play that way, even if they have most of the attributes he doesn't have time to drill them to make them perfect.

It's why not all successful club managers can cut it at international level and some successful international managers cant cut it at club level as they require different things.

Be pretty tough not to take Cole Palmer anymore.... think he's played himself onto the plane lately.

He’s the one and only bright spark in the shit show that is Chelsea.
Looks absolutely full of confidence at the moment

12 in his last 7 at home, ridiculous run of form. He's certainly on the plane for me.

I think UEFA are deciding on the squad sizes this week. Supposed to be 23 man squads but enough nations have asked for a 26 man squad again like the last 2 tournaments. I think he's in for either size for sure.

He’s definitely getting some helpful defending tonight but he just looks an absolute cert to be on the plane.

I've like Branthwaite this season but he is having a mare tonight. Same with Pickford, but it's not like there's a lot of weekly competition for that No1 shirt.

Not sure what his contract situation is but can’t see him being at Everton much longer.

I think Branthwaite has Man United written all over him in the summer. They'll sack Ten Hag and try do a face-lift and bring in younger, try move on Maguire and Varane and see how much Everton want.

Impossible not to take him. Unless he gets injured or caught in bed with Southgates wife. 100% on the plane.

Im embarrassed to say my original 23 posted a few months ago completely forgot about him!!!

Branthwaite is a talent, it could be a little too soon for the Euros though.

You would think he takes 4 from...

Stones - Maguire - Gomez - Konsa - Tomori - Dunk - Guehi - Branthwaite - Colwill. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he went back for Eric Dier. Not saying he should, but Southgate likes him and it would be very 'Gareth Southgate'.

26 man squad.......(what I think as things stand)

    GK - Pickford, Ramsdale, Trafford
    RB - Walker, Trippier
    LB - Shaw, Chilwell
CB - Stones, Maguire, Gomez, Konsa
CM - Rice, Henderson, Mainoo, Trent, Bellingham, Maddison
WG - Foden, Saka, Rashford, Grealish, Bowen, Palmer
    ST - Kane, Toney, Watkins

Standby - Lewis, Branthwaite, Eze, Gordan, Solanke

If they go with 26 man squads (sounds like the will, just delaying the announcement) I think he'll take both Toney and Watkins rather than one or the other, Tripper and Chilwell get in rather than one or the other, and it will either be Grealish & Bowen, or one of Grealish & Bowen and another CB. I think Grealish gets in because he's on the left and Bowen is more a right sided guy but wont get in ahead of Saka, Palmer, Foden.

Defence is the question mark area of the team and if he's told it's now a 26 man squad I wouldn't be surprised if he goes with Stones, Maguire, Konsa, Gomez and one of Dunk & Guehi. Because Konsa and Gomez can also cover the full back slot, can play wide CB slots in a back 5 if he loses his bottle and goes back 5 in the knock outs against good teams.

Gordon will just miss out, as will Branthwaite for me. Solanke will be unlucky too after his season. I think one of Henderson or Phillips will get in, the other will be cover and that will be a talking point. May 21st is currently the date where he can name his "training squad" where i think it's either 30/32 get called up, and then by early June it has to be narrowed down to either 23 or 26 depending on Uefas decision.

Yeh, my squad was a bit unbalanced, you are right, a 5th CB instead of a winger. Bowen the fall guy, unless he takes Palmer instead of a CM.

Henderson selected over KP all day long imo.

Oh 100%, I think same. Grealish who hasn't had a great season but he'll probably go think theirs only really Gordon as that back up LW competition in the team? Phillips will get called into the training squad for sure. JWP maybe as an outsiders too?

Sky Sports the other day were saying Southgate wants options in his squad with people who can cover multiple areas, but how many options do we need? Seemingly half the squad can play a few positions now and we can only field 11 with most of those nailed on starters already lined up.

Jack offers something different for me, tries to make things happen. He has had a stronger end to the season in all fairness.

You would think a 26 man squad eases that thinking.....

I'd go Grealish too I think, more big game experience too. Although i watched Dortmund Athletico midweek and thought Sancho looked fantastic! He plays with that drive in the next month or so and he'll surely not be too far off the thinking? I wouldn't pick him, but might be an outsider name to tag along with Barkley types who are long listed.

Yeh, Sancho another forgotten man. He has real talent, needs to leave Man Utd and I can see him returning to the England set up. We are looking very blessed with wide men though. Sterling is miles off the squad now.

Loftus-Cheek is getting a lot of plaudits in Serie A. I am pretty certain Southgate doesnt watch any Serie A though. He has never fancied Tomori, Smalling was dead and buried when he signed for Roma (and left his precious Man Utd) and Tammy doesnt get considered at all now either.

Loftus-Cheek will fit in with the Italian style far more than the prem. He needs time on the ball and a lower work rate which he gets over there, fear with him he'd look lost again in a top side.

Yeah I don't get the Tomori thing. Saw a few games of Milan in Europe and he didn't look anything special but he's more the type we need than Dunk. Tammy has only just come back I think. I remember watching the Brighton Europa game and the commentator said he had only just come back to training after doing his cruciate in the summer. He's probably back by now.
