Ive been looking at Octopus Go tariff. 0030-0430 ( or similar is 5p per kWh) Thats how its calculated at less than 5p per mile. Range of car is advertised at 260 miles on one charge of 100% , however realistically call it 180-190 miles per charge. Other than holidays or Bradford and back that’s more than sufficient for our needs. Home charging on off peak is going to be my way forward. Might as well take advantage of the two Gov grants before they pull the plug?

I used these guys - bought the product from them and they did the install. They applied for the grant on my behalf. Good service - can recommend. Local, based in East Morton.

I'm not fully up on electric vehicles etc but I'm sure I saw that some dealers are offering a charge point as part of the sale package.

Quite a few of the top end chargers utilise 3 phase - which isn’t compatible with most domestic electrics.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...Kevin1954 likes this. -

UPDATE
Now finally on the Octopus Go tariff after they installed a smart meter for free. The whole process took about 9 weeks from enrolment to getting the 5 pence per kW/h 00.30-04.30 tariff.
I did a charge on my car last night during a portion of this period and it added Approx 100 additional miles on my available range.
Total Cost £1.12p
With the price of petrol seeing its highest rate for 13 years , it looks like electric vehicles charging on these tariffs are outstandingly cheap to run
Don’t be fooled re performance either, mine does 0-60 in 6.8 seconds!Stafford Bantam likes this. -

I've just taken the plunge today and ordered my first electric car with around 250 mile range. So, over the next couple of weeks I'll be sorting out a home wall charger and looking at EV electricity tariffs.

I’m in East Anglia which would make life difficult for them. Lol! What type did you get ? There seems to be a multitude of models. The top of the range Anderson looks good but at well over a grand!
From what I can also understand in the short time looking is it depends also on your house electrics?
Tnx again

When we looked at it, the advice for installing a charger in a domestic setting was to limit the charger to less than 7.4kw. Most are because they are designed to be run from a standard 230v supply and don't require a three phase supply. There are some chargers running at around 11kw which of course provide faster charging but would definitely need a three phase supply. You need to stay clear of these unless you want to go to the cost and trouble of installing a three phase supply in your garage!

I’m ok I have a drive and ample power to and from the garage. It seems, upon reading, you need a 32 amp supply, same as an electric cooker or shower which is large in the scheme of things. Luckily I have a 40amp fuse powering another supply down the garden which is not used .( used to be for hot tub apparantly). I should be ok on the power front.
it’s the charger itself I am looking for suggestions on. There are loads looking around this morning but as you say 7.4 kw is the Max for 240v.. -
I doubt they will come to me, however there are plenty within 40 or so miles.
Someone in the village has suggested the local leccy fits them and is registered for Olev grants. I might see what he can offer. -
