Nah, I like Saltaire stuff tbh.

Last village gin and beer festival before lockdown they had about 50 guest barrels from all over the country. Saltaire ( Amber?) was right in front. Yippee, had two pints , went back for another , as one does, bloody sold out in 45 mins....popularstuff in Norfolk too!

Not come a cross Saltaire Amber, will look out for it. Titus is my favourite of the Saltaire brands, though I have to hold my hands up and say I'm very definitely a Timmy Taylors man

I wasn’t sure of the name of the brew , certainly Saltaire stuff as it was two years ago. May have been specially brewed for the event. If the sun is shining it’s a brilliant weekend.

Horrible stuff. Always much preferred Theakston's - the original Masham brewers.

I wouldn't describe it as horrible. If you find a decent cellar conditioned Black Sheep, it's a good pint in my opinion. I tried it over here in Estonia, and imported it along with Timmy Taylors and Pedigree. It didn't take off, because as ale in Estonia is relatively new, the drinkers here have all been brought up on modern style IPA's (my fault, because I was the first person to bring in IPA to Estonia - Brewdog Punk), and if it's not hopped to hell, they won't drink it. Black Sheep, Marstons and Landlord in their opinion wasn't a "proper IPA". Kind of amusing when Pedigree from Burton along with Bass, was the original IPA. Fortunately the hop trend is fading now, and I'm waiting for Covid to feck off, so I can start my new project, which is being the first pub to serve cask ale in Estonia.

We'll have to agree to differ. I've rarely had a bad pint of Theakston's Best Bitter. By comparison, I find Black Sheep to be thin tasting and far too bitter. When I've ever been in a pub where Black Sheep was the only real ale I'd drink Guinness instead. Always loved a well kept pint of Bass, Landlord or Pedigree. But Black Sheep is just not pleasant as far as I'm concerned.

Wow, that's sad to hear. Theakston's BB I grew up on, as our local pub in Hull where I was at Uni, used to have it on handpull (a quid a pint on Mondays). When were were lucky, they had OP on cask too.
I've never had a bad pint of Black Sheep, but I have been disappointed with "Black Sheep Gold". Not sure I'd ever switch from cask to Guinness though. I only do that when I walk into a pub with no handpulls. For me, even a mediocre pint of cask, is better than something dispensed with gas.

Always preferred XB. Not a fan of either Theakstons or Black Sheep. Taylors and Bass for me, Pedigree back in the day, but the quality has gone. Is it even brewed in Burton anymore?

Draught Bass. The king of bitters, and from what I read in my camra blurb it's back on form (when you can find it). Theakstons bitter does nothing for me at all and Black Sheep I find to have a nasty after taste. XB was ok, but none of the Theakstons stuff are go to beers for me, especially that awful pissy Lightfoot stuff.

Bombardier and London Pride are quality when served well up here, don't ever drink either on their home patches though, the Bombardier in Bedford is flat and awful and London Pride isn't much better.

If I walk in a pub that has Taylors I wouldn't get any further than that, unless they also had Saltaire Titus. Boltmeker, Landlord, Golden Best are all quality. Not sure about the Knowle Spring IPA though.

I agree, if I was presented with Black Sheep or Guinness it would be Guinness every time. Ever had the Halifax stuff Stod Fold ? Thats a decent brew.

I have had a couple of pints of Landlord in London, to put it bluntly it didn’t work. Much rather have London Pride in London!

As some folk seem either oblivious to good beer or just don't want us beer monsters messing up the match day thread with talk about our favourite pints, how about a separate thread to discuss what we plan to drink (whilst ruminating over Ifollow to keep it City Talk related).

Stick it in general and only the hard core who ever go in there will see it and we'll just end up reverting to a matchday thread takeover.
