Eoin Doyle

Absolutely essential that we bring in decent coverage for Doyle today (has been since he moved to Swindon).

Failure will be a bad reflection of the club.

 

Eoin Doyle is now top scorer of League 2 with 7 goals.

I am still completely perplexed by the decision to let him go to a promotion rival, really really hope this doesn't bite us back on the ar$e come the end of the season.

Some reports suggest that Swindon aren't even paying all of his wages which makes this even more baffling.

Surely promotion is worth more than losing circa £5k a week in wages.

 

Before the Northampton game Radio Leeds were quoting we have paid Swindon to take him but I was not sure of what % of his wage we were paying, surely it can't be 100% that would make no sense at all.

 

I haven't seen a figure but am sure I ready somewhere it was over half of his wages they were paying.

Wouldn't have expected Swindon to be one of our promotion rivals this year tbh so understood why they wanted to get him off the wage bill, but if they could potentially occupy one of the top seven spots then we need to be holding them to ransom, like Huddersfield did with us over Payne - up their contribution to 100 %, sign him, or we'll recall him and he can sit on our bench or (if he sulks over it and gets disruptive) make him train with the kids.

Is it right that he can only play for us and Swindon this year now? I.e. no one other than Swindon can buy him in Jan?

 

Getting rid of Doyle and Scannell allowed us to complete the rest of the squad:

We can finally play with wingers and now have a decent midfielder in Cooke to replace the woeful Devine.

If given the opportunity I wouldn't give that up in exchange for Doyle,even after his exploits at Swindon

 

Can only play for BCAFC or Swindon

I had a quick look for your post expressing your perplexion when he first went. Couldn't find it. We can all be wise after the event. Pretty much all summer everyone wanted all of last seasons players gone. Never saw anyone expressing caution about getting shot to potential promotion rivals.

Can we recall in Jan? If he's on 15 goals we should look at getting him in / selling him before his contract is up.

 

We could only sell him to Swindon realistically .
He's already played for us & them, couldn't play for another club this season

 

Someone posted Swindon have a season long loan and we cant recall him but I'd think we have a return clause if we want him to return, and if as you say he's still scoring Swindon can pay a fee if they want to keep Doyle.

 

Could end up being similar to Jack Payne deal, where after Jan they pay 100% of his wages.

 

Would it work exactly the same i.e he would be contracted to be absolutely rubbish after that?

 

They discussed this on Radio Leeds on Saturday. Apparently it was a loan where there was a small fee involved (??) but we are still contributing something towards his salary. They didn’t indicate how much. They did say there wasn’t a recall clause in Jan and went on to say that it seemed like one of those situations where a parting of ways was the best for both parties. Doyle never found the form that most us believed and hoped he would with us, whilst we needed the money created by him leaving to sign players in much needed alternative positions than his.

As frustrating as it is seeing him bang in goals for a rival, I just don’t think that would have ever happened for us. He’s going some way to proving the doubters he had a city that he is a quality goal scorer in this divisions. Just hope his goals don't have any impact on our final position at the end of the season.

 

That has been a part of my disagreement with regards Doyle leaving, also at the time of leaving we didnt have any cover for Donaldson or Vaughan[

 

Doyle didn’t want to be at city and played like he didn’t want to be here. We did right to let him go and I don’t care how many times he scores for them as he took up a team spot that made us play with ten men most games because he didn’t bring anything to the game.

 

You didn't look well enough then, I've been saying it all along - below is my post on a) the 31st August in the Doyle gone thread and b) on the 6th September in my 'What direction are we heading' thread.

 

So you're suggesting he didn't want to be at Bradford City but wants to be at Swindon Town. I find that difficult to believe.

The reason he wasn't bringing much is because we failed to adapt our game play around someone who is the best goalscorer in the entire division. A complete mismanagement of the team there.
