We had a ‘young lad on loan from the PL’. Tyreik Wright. Up comes the transfer window and he is sold to a League 1 team. If we had a player who was hitting form, then the PL club are free to conclude the loan (well they did with Wright), so you only get half a season.
Since going to Plymouth, Tyrreik he has played 4 games out of 7 and hasn’t scored.

And Plymouth have gone from being top of the league to being three points adrift having played a game more in that time. He should have stayed here !

At his current strike rate Cook could reach 30 goals for the season .

Totally agree. A full season with us and performing well, could have seen him move to a lower end championship club, which he could be next season anyhow , if Plymouth progress, or alternatively he does not get much game time and fades into oblivion, like many before him.

Wright certainly performed whilst at City, a shame we could not get him on a season long loan rather than Pereira (yes hindsight is a wonderfull thing).

Pereira is an odd one Dave, he showed real glimpses of talent towards the end of last season. This year he looks terrible from what we have seen.
He is either a real confidence player ,who needs to feel the love or is too comfy , knowing he got that new 3 year deal from Luton in the summer.

Agree if Pereria can't get a regular start at City theres no way I can see him being a regular in a good league one side.

I agree but 25 would still be a hell of a season. I'm still struggling to wrap my head around anyone knocking him, I just don't understand why anyone wouldn't want a striker who simply wins you games.

Bang on. He reminds me of Bobby Campbell. a big daft lump, but give him the service and he will score goals at this level.
Adam Clayton's arrival has been great for Cook, as at least 50% of his corners, are actually in the danger zone, where Cook does most of his damage. I wonder how many goals he would score with a Beagrie type player putting the ball on his head.

He's like that guy sheffield united had in the 80s, Keith something, only ever scored goals and added nothing more. Every team should have one.

Jimmy Greaves, Gary Lineker, Michael Owen, Allan Clarke, Tony Cottee etc etc. Football is littered with strikers who did very little except put the ball in the onion bag.
We had a superb lower league equivalent in Eoin Doyle - a fox in the box par excellence. But we ridiculously and comprehensively misused him as a target man, with predictably terrible results. We'd still be in L1 (or higher) if we had used him properly to do the one thing he did really well - score goals from inside the box

Not sure. You have to take guaranteed opportunities when they arise.

Get your overall point Salty but this continual talk - not just from you - about Cookie's limitations continues to confound me as I've said many times on here before. Early March, 19 goals and six assists. At bottom league level, he scores with both feet and his head from outside the box and close-up. I think the 'limitations' you all refer to seem to be far too much comparing him to strikers much much further up in the pyramid. He's playing in L2 and so far, is the best striker in our league.

Sorry Offcomedun, always have big respect for your thoughts but I just think you - and quite a few others on here - underrate Cook. Look, 19 league goals by early March would have any other L2 clubs supporters slavering about their striker. And yet we dismiss him for not contributing enough beyond that. But my God, he does! Cook also currently has our top assists with six. Without him, we don't have Harry Lewis's go-to when he decides to play long and he often gets headers and clips off. Increasingly and as his confidence has grown this season, he plays far clever lay-offs and has become a much more wise hold-up player up top.

I've referred to this earlier Northern - but I'll repeat it. Not only 19 league goals by early March - but also six massively vital assists.

My comments about his limitations were to highlight the fact that he plays in league 2 and not a criticism of his role so far. I said his contribution can't be questioned. I think people are trying to put fordy's nonsense into some context, not questioning Cook. There can be no argument....but the things that fordy expects on top of what he has achieved are unrealistic for a league 2 player. Certainly not saying he's right, quite the opposite
