Dom Poleon Gone

Very much sums up my opinion of SG, Dave. I think most on here guessed he'd 'made his mind up' long before the season ended. However, to his credit - I'm sure his experience and input was appreciated (In talks with Edin) prior to his eventual departure.
SG was aware of the long term work that needed doing, but IMO gave the impression that as a 'Championship Manager', he wasn't prepared to roll his sleeves that far up his arms, and get stuck in.

 

Bang on... Some of the personalised stuff is frankly appalling. Like him or loathe him, good bad or an indifferent player maybe... whatever floats ones boat... but hey let’s be adults not sniping Maradonas!

Many Clubs will have had players that don't 'fit like a glove'. BUT - Why is it always the gloves fault ?

Yes agree with that. I think his opinion before declining the coaches position would have been helpful but like you say I can't really see him putting the work in and developing the younger players whilst working with more experienced players.

 

I would hope Graysons comments with regards things having to be in place infrastructures wise were taken on board, but to Edin & Stefans credit they have to walk before they can run (no my account has not been hacked) the training facility comment IMO was a get out clause for Simon, they are more that adequate but yes can be improved.

 

It will bring a smile to my face if we get promoted (while S.G.) is still looking for a job.Sure our fans will remind him he made an error of judgement.

 

Glad to see that Poleon has gone, I can see him doing a good job in league 2, more his standard. Also, never really got the feeling he was a city player other than that first game he played when he came off the bench and gave his all.

 

Not sure it's an error of judgement but more a could do the job that the chairmen wanted ie developing working with a mix of youth and experience rather than buying in experience.

 

Get our money back on Reeves and McCartan and we're laughing!

Gonna be hard getting £400k for them two though!

 

Including missing at least two sitters in that Blackpool game.

 

I think there was something there with McCartan and Reeves. Reeves especially put in some very good performances but injury held him back last season. With the right partner in midfield (Akpan seems to fit the bill) he could be very effective. Also saw more in McCartan compared to Poleon as well. At least there was some instinct and desire to get on the ball with McCartan.

I think there is potential development to be made with Reeves and McCartan and if they find that then they will become strong L1 players. I never saw that in Poleon which is why hes found his level at L2.

 

You're not alone in your assessment of Reeves and McCartan, I just feel we're dealing with players with talent but not the ability to properly apply it. McCartan isn't a good enough athlete, for me, and is one of those players without a clearly defined role - Reeves has had a ton of excuses made for him, but ultimately we've seen a couple of months of decent form followed by a horrendous couple of months.

I've no idea how compatible Reeves and Akpan may be, but given how deep Reeves seemed to drop, I hope Hope (lol) is more of an attacking midfielder.

 

It’s been well documented that Reeves was playing with an injury for months. I blame the powers that be for not getting it sorted sooner

 

McCartan's fitness will be one of the things I'll be looking out for in pre-season. He seemed unfit at the start of last season so hope he's being looking to improve that. I think he's a talent but just isn't clear about what his position is. Is he an attacking mid, a winger (which Grayson used him as once or twice) or an out an out forward? He needs to find his place in the team and with Jones back and Josh Wright in, competition is growing - even more so when a replacement for Poleon is found.

I'm far more confident in seeing a better season from Reeves. I do think he was rushed back too early from injury and it showed. I think Reeves needs a bit of a presence in there with him and Akpan could provide that, but ultimately don't know what style of play Collins adopts so we will learn more over the coming weeks about where everyone fits in. I'm actually looking forward to seeing them play on Tuesday at Guiseley.

I agree with the majority of that except the Mcarten part. I'm hoping he fits into this new look team but as far as NKP and Vince are concerned, we can just do without the mistakes they make on a regular basis.

 

But he doesn't contribute enough. People will say he adds a threat in the box but i can't think of a single game where he had a good game in midfield. Slightly more effective in defense but its not enough to earn a starting place and even Grayson saw that me thinks.

 

If we could recoup a large slice of what we paid out for McCarten and Reeves we should have a healthy transfer budget available to get in some real quality, we should of also received some of the Nakhi instalments by now to add to it.

 

Absolutely agree. Vince never hid when it was obvious that he and the team were out of sorts. He still ran and ran and put himself about.

I would keep him.

 

Fair to say things didn't work out for Dom at City, but I think he has just shown some grace by thanking all the fans on his Twitter and saying he 'wishes he could have scored more goals for us'. He also remembered the Doc in his message. Hope he finds a 'happy place' at Crawley and I for one wish him all the best.
