Although he was a larger than life character he should have known better than to base our future income/destiny on something that had generated nothing.

 

You have to wonder about Rupp, a very successful business man who was introduced to a man who had no money and little involvement in the day to day running of a football club by his bank manager.
He obviously didn't look into what the costs were with regards the running of a football club and what is required to make a sucsess of his venture, even posters on here can find the cost of owners getting their clubs to the Championship, but once there what is needed to take that next step up.
You realy have to question his naivety, why anyone who has basically bought the club with his money then puts a stranger in charge, unbelievable Jeff.

 

I've said this may times on here and I could be completely wrong, but I don't think Rupp ever bought the club with the sole idea of it being a profitable investment. To him I think it was another "boys toy" - something his mates haven't got.

 

Absolutely.

He bought a club on the up. Momentum that in his first season nearly took us into the Championship. Yes, I know off the field things were getting shabby to say the least, but from a footballing perspective we had a club to be proud of.

Rupp is now holding us back. He clearly won't sell the club, as he isn't going to recoup anywhere near the money he has spent so far. I'm not sure how many suitors there are for the club, but a bit of wise investment in the squad would go a long way in this league. He isn't going to do that.

 

I'd agree with that if he'd played with his "toy" more. As it stands we seem more like something his mum bought him for Xmas that he didn't ask for.

 

Money has been spent, it’s just been wasted on absolute rubbish. Wright, Akpan, Guthrie, Mellor, Henley, Bruenker, Sattlemier, Raeder, Barr, Riley.

 

That suggests to me I'm giving him more credit than he's due, even the top 6 clubs who thought they'd just join a super league were brought back down to earth by their fans.
If he believes he can do the same then he needs to be very weary, he was hours away from the publicity that the "fly bye" would have brought both him and Rahic I'd assume not showing them both in a good light, Jon was asked to cancel it at very short notice, what's been done in the past could be done again and carried out, I wonder what his mates might think then.

 

I keep saying it. We're just another "portfolio" for Rupp! He's no interest in football. He's interested in making money. He's looked at us, decided he can't make money unless he spends some, and has just filed us away in his "didn't work out, could come good somehow" folder. At the time, Rahic sold him the ultimate boys toy. Unfortunately, he let Edin have the keys to his playroom. We were never in a position to come back from that, because our previous owners had been frugal with the cash leaving us without a back up plan if the sh!t hit the fan. If only Rahic had done a spin on Rupp and persuaded him to buy the ground as part of the deal. That would be the saving grace, as it would mean at least Rupp has something to sell as part of a fully packaged football club. Right now, he's left with a failing club with no assets and no interested parties. I wonder who his advisors are. Someone needs to have a word in his ear. I can't imagine RS having the balls to be telling him what to do, but surely there must be someone he's associated with who could give him a bit of a push.

 

Rupp bought the club because he was sold a potential money-making model by Rahic.
Rahic was convinced that our proximity to a large number of very big clubs along the M62 meant that we could pick up PL academy rejects, turn them into L1/Championship stars and sell them back to bigger clubs for big money to finance the club and get us into the Championship and then PL. The TV money would then be massive and Rupp would be coining in a huge return on his investment.
Rupp bought into this dream until it became clear that Rahic's master plan was no such thing and that the mad professor had been spending money like water in trying to cover his failings.
So Rupp was left with a club with no assets, in a sport he's not interested in, that needs serious investment to progress. He's had his fingers burned and is unlikely to chuck good money after bad (from his perspective). He'll make sure we stay afloat in L2, so he doesn't lose any future prospect of recouping his outlay, but that'll be it, I suspect.
Our only chance to progress is if we get lucky with a manager who can get us up on a limited budget - hence the appointment of Adams to attempt precisely that.

 

One short of a team there.

 

Offcomedun for me this is a really spot on analysis of where we are currently at. And yes, they're trying to do it on the cheap with Adams. However, I still think Adams will get us up. He shares the Alex Ferguson philosophy (as outlined at length in his autobiography), to wit the last third of the season is where everything happens and that's what you have to be more fully prepared for. As long as Adams has us in touch of the automatics come Feb and March, and he's made a couple of astute January signings to jog us along the way, that'll be the final section of the season he's been concentrating on all along right from the start. If Adams gets us promoted does that let Rupp off the hook? I don't think so. He'll know he has to invest more to make us competitive in League 1. Whatever, two things for me - I want to get out of this shitty carsey league and I would love a new owner.

I do wonder though, what happens IF we get promoted. Rupp is going to have to shell out some money. Do you think us going up a league, is going to give him confidence to do that?

 

It might, if it gets him closer to selling the club for the money he wants.
