Has a lot to do with him being injured for the rest of the season, and his age.
Seems if you're young with a resale value you get a fine.

Come on, we know how this works. Bennett and Lawrence are worth a tidy sum on the football market, Keogh is worth the grand sum of fk all. Keogh takes the PR rap and gets paid well for his leaving the club while the other two protagonists pretty much get off scott free because of their value. Can see why Derby have done it even though it comes out looking like PR disaster it truly is. Business wise though its the right decision and no other club would have done any different.

I'm really not sure what he did wrong in relations to others. He wasn't driving the cars unlike Bennett and Lawrence so he hasn't committed a crimianl offence and sure you could say as a senior player he should have known better than to stay for more drinks after the team outing but he wasn't even the only senior player to do so, as we all know Tom Huddlestone stayed and snapchatted his team mates getting drunk. Yet Huddlestone has been rewardeded by being made Captain (which may very well come with a financial benefit).
Lawerence and Bennett should have been sacked right away and if Keogh is getting sacked then Huddlestone should be following him (and any other of the senior players who stayed back for more drinks rather than doing the right thing and ending the night before they all got so drunk they weren't thinking logically so declined the driver service)Stop hovering to collapse... Guessing they sacked him because there was no value to them anymore. Long term injury at his age.
Got a feeling he will be able to appeal or do something about it.Interested Bystander likes this. -

I think Derby would have been well within their rights to sack him for gross misconduct, but they have shot themselves in the foot by not also sacking Bennett and Lawrence, whose behaviour was arguably worse as they were both drink driving and left the scene of the accident (although returning 45 minutes later).
It strikes me Derby have seen an opportunity to cut their losses and save £24k a week on an ageing player with a career threatening injury, after their earlier offer of a very much reduced wage was declined, and nothing to do with what he actually did in terms of gross misconduct. The PFA are involved so I reckon a settlement will be reached. -

Looks like they have sacked him for putting himself at risk of injury. But again this is only a guess. Which ever way they have saved themself a load of cash. They will have had legal advice that they were on safe legal grounds for doing it whilst not sacking the others too.
