2nd best defence in the league behind forest Green 4 clean sheets out of last 5 games since the formation change.

 

No we are definitely 4th in the table, and if we win our game in hand, jump into the auto spots. Whilst playing badly for most of the time. Promotion is the aim. Performances can only improve. Just be realistic that we are not going to walk the league with the squad we have.

Performances can get worse as well as better.

 

The defense have been excellent with the current formation. O'Donnell has rarely had anything to do in the last few games. Bigger tests to come of course in the New Year at places like Swindon and Colchester.

Most successful teams are built on the strength of their defence.

 

The stats may show clean sheets, but I’m not sure we’re a solid as you might think. We’ve played some awful teams in the last 3 weeks. Our centre backs don’t look comfortable in a 3.

 

Put it this way,

If everyone on here was offered our current position at the start of the season, 97.5% would have took it.

Some people need to get a sense of perspective, and enjoy the ride. We’ve had much, much worse seasons in recent memory, don’t forget that.

 

We really cant get much worse than we are right now yet we are 4th. Today was awful as was Carlisle yet we gained 4 points.

 

They have that little to do we could easily play 2 and leave our fullbacks back, they don't create going forward anyway. Stick the extra body in midfield.

 

You pay your money you post your opinion. I couldn't care less what others think, I didn't particularly enjoy the 90 minutes despite the result. It might take us up, might not, but my view mirrors @Offcomedun. These players are capable of better than that today and of general games this season.

 

I know the football is a bit grim. But the players appear to care, listen to the manager and are not getting battered every other week. It is progress from where we were.

 

I agree; at the moment we are on pace for our meanest defence ever, whether in the number of goals conceded or in goals conceded per match. If we can keep it up, then the goals for won't be such a problem -- a half-season of 1-0's will be tough on the nerves though...

Yes, compared to the previous season and a half. It would be nice to win promotion with style, but at the moment, getting back up a division will do for me.

Who says we can't?
We're scraping draws and wins with a parsimonious defence and the occasional goal here and there, mostly from terrible defending rather than our own creativity - eg today's two goals from hoofs forward to a quick forward drawing penalties from slow defenders.
The recent clean sheets have all been against poor attacks and the pitifully few goals against very poor defences. There's no guarantee that better defences won't shut us out completely and better attacks score a few goals. We aren't likely to get hammered, but we don't need to concede many to drop places if our goals dry up.
