Cup Runs/Promotion

Not so much a 'broken' train set @Onside ......... More of a derailment, if you like.
Still time to make essential repairs, but only if those are organised, and correctly implemented.

 

Did it under our last owners, I'd suggest any defeat is not good especially if we'd have beaten the likes of Yeovil we would have had a home tie with Manchester United, not to be sniffed at, even Edin commented on it at the time.
At the start of every season fans think "this season will be their clubs season for promotion" I dont think we are any different to other clubs fans.

 

My other half tells me was a really good striker, apparently he was playing in the first match I went to at VP, Boxing Day 1967, we won 5-1 Notts County, he might have even scored, not with me though, I was in loooove

 

I think the current frustration stems from us being a couple of quality players short of promotion to the championship.

Sadly, instead of building on that, we've watched a decline in the quality of the side, to an extent that relegation is a real concern. That needn't have been the case. There are myriad reasons/hypotheses for this, no need to go over them again here.

I'm not sure it is unrealistic expectations, rather huge disappointment that we are where we are right now.

I can't be both checking exactly, but I think we've had about seven or eight seasons in the top two divisions in the past forty years. We are a lower league club, with the potential to break out but as @Dennis points out, the cards are stacked against us. I think many of us thought our new owners, initially, might be able to change that by chucking some serious investment into the playing squad. That hasn't happened, and it appears that the man with the money has negligible interest in the club.

I think most fans just want to see a bit of decent football, a few wins and not get the runaround at home against teams that in the last couple of years, before we went to shit, would not have looked forward to playing us.

 

Tell your other half he is so correct, he was a very classy player still can't get my head round how we signed him....happy days

 

A great shame you missed us being 'cheated' against Southampton in '76 - FA Cup quarters.
And 'smart arse' Mick Channon saying pre-match ..... "I didn't know where Bradford was." Geography and Industrial History were not high on his list of any school achievements, then. !!!

 

That particular match got a little bit tasty on the kop...which I painfully remember if my old memory serves me correctly!

 

Take no notice @RonnieBrown remembers it very well , weren't you around between 1965–1968.

Alex Smith...must have been one the hardest tackles I've known..i think we signed him from Osset albion....that picture brings it all back.

 

Sorry Dave - There are three in that pic I don't recall ........ Shergold, Leek and Cuthbertson.
I only got my head around most names at 10 years old - 1968.

Ken Leek was a star. I remember running on to the pitch at the end of one game to congratulate him personally, even though we'd lost. You could do that in those days.

 

but can you find a quote where they ‘promised’ promotion within three years like you claimed?

 

And he actually got concussed scoring the winning goal at Colchester...god I feel old !

 

Memory fading, here ....... Was he replaced by Pete Middleton ?

 

i agree completely and that’s why i always question people on why they believe we ‘belong’ in the championship.. most people don’t have an answer.

 

At one point he was in the same team as poor Peter iff my memory is correct.

 

I think you mean Jimmy Cuthbertson mate, an inside forad, for some reason I was also under the impression he was a Bradford lad, but whilst attending Jim Mellors funeral earlier in the year we were taking and he said he came from Silksworth a little coal mining village near Sunderland.
