I was highly suspicious of how quick it was but the team in question have repurposed work they were already doing on making a MERS vaccine which has given them the headstart.

I'd have thought @Fordy117@Fordy117 would have broken the bad news that after the world gets a grip on this virus there will be food shortages of "biblical proportions" hes usually at the first to break bad news.
It wont be the likes of the USA or ourselves who suffer the most (if it happens) but the third world countries, will it be good bye to the likes of KFC, McDonald's, Burger King ?.

Everyone will suffer, for example we import something like 60-70% of our food in this country. If we don't look at the situation with the same creativity and objectives as immediately post ww2 everything will go to shit very quickly once we come out from the lockdowns. Protect people not profit and treat money as the construct it is.

I understand your sentiments FB but the people you mention are surely in a very small minority? In every scenario you will always get people wanting to be better but on whole I think the clap is well natured and isn't some alternative motive behind to prove they are better than others. I haven't clapped by the way but have absolutely no problem with anyone who does it and certainly wouldn't question their motives of why they are doing if it's having a positive effect on an NHS workers mindset somewhere!

Possibly - and just to be clear I have no problem with the notion of people clapping and showing gratitude to the NHS. Why would I? They're doing a phenomenal job in awful circumstances. But the amount of people I see who preach one thing and act another way, is significant. I'm taking a break from Facebook over the last week, but before I did the amount of virtue signaling stuff I saw was rife. People doing the whole 'clap for the NHS' thing, changing their profile pics to I heart NHS etc, but then going about their business as normal - multiple shopping trips every week, multiple house calls to see friends and family for non-urgent reasons etc..... if you want to support the NHS, follow the rules. Much less public, no one will recognize you on social media for it, but its the only thing that matters.

As I posted SOME will fair far better than others because they have the resources to pay, that will be the richer countries of the world and if you think otherwise because of your "Protect people not profit and treat money as the construct it is" then you need to wake up to the fact that money makes the world go around, looks like we disagree again.

This. Heeding the advice and following the rules is the way to show your appreciation. Actions speak a lot louder than words (or claps, in this case)

Also, the idea that clapping just a bit harder would somehow improve the situation we find ourselves in seems daft to me. (It seems to be a theme on this board)

After the Paris terrorist attacks many did exactly the same with regards the french flag colors with the quotes we stand together etc, so its nothing new, and there was hardly any reaction I read at the time.

Financial Times report as many as 41000 deaths in the UK from Covid 19. Frightening if true

Apparently yesterday, maybe day before, there were 40,000 tests available but only 18,000 done. They are also rolling out tests but post, Amazon drop off the kit. Royal Mail then pick it up following day and results emailed within 24hr

Most stuff is usually protected behind the FT's firewall but today I could look at a few things without logging in first. This was one ...

See if you can read it as well

I remember at the beginning of all this, 20,000 deaths was considered a ‘good’ number.

Exactly frightening times, will countries over the world when this is over acknowledge that during the pandemic they did not quoted the actual death figure because the public could not get their heads around those kind figures, not to sure they would even if the FT figures are correct.
Weeks ago I said to Fordy imo this virus would take 1,000,000 or more, I do hope I'm proved wrong.

Looking forward to prime minister question time at 12pm.

Starmer will face Dominic Raab. Raab could be needing a new hole by the end of it.

Damn I need to sort my life out if I am looking for to this.

Getting his pants pulled at the minute on testing.

This bollocks about capacity of testing when they said 100k tests pulled down. They think people are stupid.

We're doing less than 20k tests.
