Have you seen what is going on in just about every country in the world all are having very similar outcomes to us. It’s a worldwide problem we like most others are struggling with it. But we are looking after people very well with all the financial measures in place and the government should be praised for it

Well we're not because like the US we have record unemployment levels as unfortunately they were too many holes in the government incentives for businesses to get round meaning staff suffer.

Also this is enough reason to highlight an exit plan or be more positive because companies will continue to let people go.

You can't praise something which is leading to more unemployment and people will soon be really struggling.

They are helping the vast majority of the population through unprecedented times yes of course when this is over there is going to be a lot of pain but by doing what they are doing we can hopefully come out the other side running

@abbomf@abbomf wont appreciate that, he thinks it is pointless saving over 80's as they have had a good innings

708 deaths is the awful number today.

So if we are not in the peak then I don't know what we are doing.

With all the political negativity by some re ventilators, ICU's ,PPE and various unknown testing methods, seems to me anyhow that we can't save the most vulnerable and that the damage is done before the NHS gets involved...

    Yeah how is it doing?

We have no vaccine so let's all go back to work soon and hope for the best.

Just got to hope the government pull their finger out and get the equipment required & testing.

Nothing to crow about at all but according to this we are below trend

The number of 708 deaths is a new high, but a fall in cases indicates the UK is slightly below trend. The drop in new confirmed cases from 4,450 on Friday to 3,735 cases shows a continued slowdown.

New cases were growing by about 20% a day up to last weekend. In the last week, that slowed to about 10% a day.

That's even after allowing for the expansion of testing to include NHS workers. Even if Saturday's fall is followed by rises, it is evidence that case growth is slowing.

The figure of 708 new deaths is a record high, but it is also below scientific expectations. Deaths have been growing by just under 25% each day. That means doubling every 3.5 days. A continuation of that would have taken us from 684 deaths on Friday to more than 800.

The first day of a below trend growth is too soon to call a turn, but there is hope that the slowdown we're seeing in case numbers will eventually feed through into the numbers of new deaths.

    In peak.

This isn't a competition mate. We need to control numbers and unfortunately the U.K.currently not doing it.
