When I played for Laisterdyke U17s v Baildon I faced a young Matthew Hoggard. Quite quick to say the least. Got whacked on the little finger of my left hand and it drew blood even through the thick padding. Didn't last long out there.

Did you play against Matthew Duce? He was a wicket-keeper and good mates with Matthew Hoggard. I worked with Matthew's dad for a few years.

Good effort on playing Hoggy! My brother played against Phil De Freitas when he had dropped back down to club cricket.

I remember playing for Bankfoot under 13s third side. We were chosen as a 3 day warm up game for the touring West Indies team of '84.

I gave Mikey Holding some verbals whilst at the non-strikers end, and then realised my error after running through for a naughty single after a misfield by Greenidge.

He put 5 men out for the hook, so i knew I was in for some chin music. Boy that guy could release a corky ball at some speed from 22 yards away when he was mad.

Needless to say I was retired not out at 40, although a complex eye socket fracture meant I was unable to play the game again.

 

I’m stretching the connections a bit here but my best mate at upper school played for Bankfoot with Dermot McGrath who was Anthony’s older brother.

The name doesn't ring a bell. I only played to make up the numbers really because I enjoyed it! If I ended up batting we were probably losing.

 

10 hour round trip to Dover.

Have you read any of the books? There's about a thousand. I thought I'd read the series to see if it was like the film not realising how many there are. Gave up.

Used to play on the same team as Ants in junior representative cricket. Step below Yorkshire. Went for Yorkshire trials for my age group but didn't get through. Ian Fisher was chosen instead. He didn't make it at Yorkshire but moved to Gloucestershire to play with them for a couple of seasons.

Played with a couple of the elder lads in the Bairstow family too.

 

Must be nice to have the house to yourself though. Hopefully they'll be half way to Calais before they realise you're not there.
