Watched them fishing the Derwent in Workington " fly fishing " ,
looked like sweeping brush handles with clothes line and the biggest feck off flys i've ever seen .
some very large fish in the stretch though ,
sea trout and salmon .

Yeah, the Derwent throws up some big salmon. Been fishing really well for large browm trout in recent yrs. i usually cast my eye over the report for that river in trout & salmon mag. Never tried big river salmon fishing, spey casting etc with 15ft rods. Much prefer smaller rivers like in skye, an 8 weight rod will cope in all but the heaviest flows. It's mobile fishing too, normally a long walk involved, no manicured banks for the hoity toity circuit. Not carting a rod like that about.

The river runs at the bottom of my road ,
few deep pools and fast shallow runs ,
they fish very heavy for them but no finnese .

A village just up the road ( Brigham ) have a day ticket water ,
supposed to have carp- tench- bream - roach - rudd - all large ,
but it's a tenner a day ,
will observe for a while before trying it .

 

Yer, my daughter loves it. They're a bit gymnastic for pure street dance but the storytelling is great.

Never tried night time fly fishing for sea trout. That is how the pro's do it, supposed to be brilliant if you get one in the dark. Plus try not to spook yourself before you are even fishing.

Usually use 10 lb maxima for my salmon fishing with wee double flies, 7 or 8 weight ghost tip fly line (so full floating with 15ft sinking intermediate tip). 8lb line for sea trout, size 10 or 12 flies.

Yes about a mile from cockermouth on the A66 ,
not very big ,
they are digging a new lake in Harrington which will belong to a local club .
