Received an email this morning. 1000s of farmed rainbow trout have escaped from a fish farm off the coast of north skye. They have gone into a river with an endangered salmon population and they’ve no idea the impact, whether disease or predation on any juvenile resident fish. So the club are asking people to go and catch and kill as many as possible, also send samples for analysis i guess so they can assess/monitor the impact. One bloke caught 60 in a week, i saw some large fish moving in a pool below the rd bridge last week and was amazed to think i’d seen either salmon or sea trout, but no, they are rainbows. It’s interesting i should get this while i read about how people have no impact on the environment. Apparently. All this tech and we can’t stop fish escaping, not that this is this is the only issue, it’s well know how the disease from west coast fish farming has had a massive negative impact on salmon and sea trout numbers in particular.
