The more I think of it, surely there's a market for a blog of northern based great restaurants. Someone should do that.

Bills is on your way up to the O2. Browns is up the top end of town too, bit pricier.

There's loads of places in the Trinity. There's also the trinity kitchen, with lots of small non-mega chain outlets with shared tables. Plenty of options and you can all have different stuff.

Daughter loves Moose Coffee in Manchester. Their 3 pancakes with maple syrup can take down a rhino. Live off that for weeks.
