I do need data to consider risk. I've still not been given any. I am not encouraging, nor discouraging, I just think it's big fuss over not much at all. But, you mentioned atmosphere and it's only very recently that an Arsenal striker said he missed the flares and atmosphere of Ligue 1 compared to the sit and twiddle your thumbs nothingness of PL stadia.

I have read and know what they are, but if a person doesn't have a flare, but a pen, and sticks that in the eye of another, do you ban pens at football matches? I just asked for injuries per flare use, nothing has been forthcoming. I would have thought that considering the use of flares, accepted as normal, legal or not, in Scandanavia, Italy, France, Germany, Turkey and Greece that this would have produced a shed load of horror stories? Nope.

Don't some EU countries have them as not illegal? Just asking, but think it's true, are these countires nuts?

That's fine John. But I do need data to reach an informed opinion. Rochdale is akin to "It's common sense innit", if that was the case then I'd wear a cycle helmet and likely put myself in more danger.

Like I said, I am for them pre-game, not during, if 0.05% of the fans have breathing problems, let them sit elsewhere. Maybe if the pyro kids could do something pre-game, they wouldn't feel the urge to fook about during?

One EU country has had legal pyro fan shows (pre-game) since 2015 and has not had one reported injury. It's illuminating to see that the (forward thinking) Scandanvian countries and the USA are talking about the use of pyro in certain situations rather than reactive, non-scientific hyperbole, AKA codswallop.....

 

But that is Park-esque obfuscation! I have not questioned whether anything is illegal. That's not any debate.

They are legal in other EU countries and in some of those, the displays are orchestrated and controlled in designated areas. This leads me to believe that, without any counter compelling data, the risk is being over played in the UK, it's something to discuss, not shout down.

TBH If genuine data, injury per lit flare, was produced right now, I think it'd show that being in the vicinity of a lit flare in a football stand was highly less dangerous than playing golf.

 

That's a cheap shot Steve and not really relevent to the debate as to whether flares are dangerous or not or to what degree. FYI I attend a game of football every week, just not at VP, but by the end of the season I'll have attended VP 5 or 6 times which, considering our support and the match cost to me, makes me a top 1% supporter.

 

Good for you, give yourself a pat on the back, ooops you already did......again........and still miles away from putting in what I have.........now focus on the 100's of 1000's who never ever go to VP..

Why do Flares keep getting mentioned? I've not seen a Flare used once. Seen Smoke bombs let off but no Flares. Totally different item.
