    This is a stupid debate.
Rules are made for a reason and it’s mandatory they they are followed whether we feel they apply to us or not.
Eg. I think I’m fine to drive after 3 pints but the law says not. Am I able to disagree with the law?

I also feel by driving is safe without the use of a seatbelt, can I ignore the rules in this too?

If I remember correctly YOU don't even attend games so really no need to get involved in the right or wrongs of pyrotechnics in sports grounds.

But that is Park-esque obfuscation!:D I have not questioned whether anything is illegal. That's not any debate.

They are legal in other EU countries and in some of those, the displays are orchestrated and controlled in designated areas. This leads me to believe that, without any counter compelling data, the risk is being over played in the UK, it's something to discuss, not shout down.

TBH If genuine data, injury per lit flare, was produced right now, I think it'd show that being in the vicinity of a lit flare in a football stand was highly less dangerous than playing golf.

That's a cheap shot Steve and not really relevent to the debate as to whether flares are dangerous or not or to what degree. FYI I attend a game of football every week, just not at VP, but by the end of the season I'll have attended VP 5 or 6 times which, considering our support and the match cost to me, makes me a top 1% supporter.;)

That's deluded to think that you are attending 6 games a season and that makes you a top 1% supporter.

Supporting City is not a financial decision for many and never will be.

I have been a ST holder for over 20 years and will continue to pay whatever the going rate is.

I have been to over 80 different away grounds since 1979 and never considered that as a cost.

I just love supporting the club. Mad I know, but I do. Its my passion.

Now who is patting themselves on the back? Pot calling the kettle black.

How could we fit hundreds of thousands into the ground?

How dangerous are flares? I prefer straight jeans myself. ;)

No matter how dangerous, or not, in your opinion, there is no reason or place to bring them into a football stadium.

In my opinion all pyrotechnics can be dangerous and run the risk of burning someone. Do we, of all fans, really want to see a fan burnt at a football match. As well as the risk of being burnt, the acrid smoke is a nuisance, and for some fans, very irritating to their respiratory system.

I am all for banning fans caught letting them off

Just seen a post on twitter from a fan sent a letter from the club threatening a ban for having been identified as posting online comments supporting the use of pyrotechnics. Interesting developments.

What kind of mad world do we live in where City fans try defend bringing incendiaries into crowded stadiums? We seem to live in a world where idiots seem to deny history and common sense and show no repsect for the welfare of those around them.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-50490458

Dried hair gel and sprays can be very flammable. Doesn't it occur to any of the idiots lighting pyros in football grounds that they could accidentally set somebody's head on fire?

These things want banning, too. Birds and bats roost at lots of football grounds and I can't say I'm looking forward to the day one flies through the shooting flames and ends up smoking and writhing in front of loads of kids on the front row - or in the crowd even. People can be very stupid before they get smart. At least the US has banned them temporarily.

If you think it through, one of the biggest problems with generating smoke at crowded events is desensitisation. One day, there WILL be a fire - and people will not run. This is why there are often many unnecessary deaths at fires in concerts and nightclubs. People think the early signs of fire are just part of the special effects and they realise the seriousness of their situation too late.

Looks like the lad in question has deleted the post. He seemed to be adamant it was genuine when questioned about it.

Was it one of the YouTubers by any chance? If it was I'd love to have seen his face when he got the letter as he likes to give it the big one online with all the No Pyro stuff but then backtrack when someone questions him

I think I know who you mean and I don't think it's him although I'm guessing they all know each other.

Whether or not you’re allowed an opinion is decided on how many games you attend.

Jesus, there’s some absolute whoppers posting on this thread.
